"Review: Little Tigers In Your House By One Wing Low"

Self-described as a “genre-confused all-girl rock band”, Chicago’s One Wing Low recently released their debut EP, Little Tigers In Your House. Recorded and mixed at Caffeinated Recordings, the short 4-track EP clocks in at just over 15 minutes and never misses a beat. Though this may be their first official release, One Wing Low shares members with Chicago groups Soft Speaker and Deadlands.

Little Tigers In Your House kicks off with the type of jangly garage rock that you’d expect to hear while browsing the bins of a record shop in the ’90s. “Affair” finds vocalist Ashly Dalene channeling Garbage’s Shirley Manson and leading the fast, fun, and distorted track that quickly sets the tone for the rest of the EP.

The standout track for me is the reckless abandon anthem, “Warehouse Glitter”. The song’s driving bass leads straight into a chorus that just begs for call and answer and dares you not to chant along.

With its third track, “Bones”, Little Tigers takes a darker turn as steady, pounding drums set the stage for dream-like guitar and eerie keys. “Ignite” picks up the tempo from “Warehouse Glitter” while maintaining the darker tones of “Bones”. The understated vocals in the verse pave the way for the energetic chorus and it’s mantra-like line: “We ingite”.

Little Tigers In Your House is currently available as a digital download through One Wing Low’s Bandcamp. Even though it’s set to “name your price”, we highly recommend throwing a few bucks down – this EP is well worth it. - Midwest Action

Bio

One Wing Low is a three girl/one dude band from Chicago.  Focusing on melodic guitar and bass lines and raw and personal lyrics, the music comes together to create dark-jangly-noisy alternative new-wave gothic pop-rock (to put it simply).  One Wing Low features members of popular Chicago bands Soft Speaker and Deadlands.

With songs about death, boys, war, ocelot danger, slumber party massacres, Star Trek,  and Game of Thrones, One Wing Low puts on an energetic and entertaining live show.  They've performed all around Chicago at venues such as The Burlington, Coles, Quenchers, Township, LiveWire Lounge, and more.  In October 2013 they traveled to Austin to perform at MeowCon, a conference for women in music, as well as Carousel Lounge and TrailerSpace Records.

What people are saying:

Locals One Wing Low describe themselves as "a genre-confused all-girl rock band," but this wolf is pretty keen on their dark, jangly alt-rock."  -  Gossip Wolf  (Chicago Reader)

"That band was really good!" - Some guy at Township

"It's like Siouxsie and the Banshees meets The Cure meets The Cranberries or something." - A bunch of people

"Its as if Pavement and Sonic Youth had an offspring band-child, decided to let Wayne Coyne circa 1990 lead it, and then put PJ Harvey from the "Dry" / "Rid of Me" era on vocals with a sprinkling of Kim Deal."  - a guy who ultimately rejected Ashly on OkCupid
