On Mono’s strutting, sultry swagger oozes Velvets-inspired drone and acid-psych shimmer like a primal thrum on the back of your eyelids. The music moves in thick, fuzzy strokes like it’s waist-deep in water, waves of distortion crashing all about. The laconic, blissed-out, undulating hum induces a sympathetic, head- swimming state. Philly rockers On Mono, whose distinctive blend of Southern rock, psychedelic and shoegaze will have you rocking all night long. Formed just over a year ago, the band has been winning fans across the city with visceral, nocturnal ballads that mix '60s-influenced folk rock (the Yardbirds, the Byrds) with '90s-esque post-punk alternative (My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth). The result is a gritty, trippy collection of songs that will transport you far away from the wholesome simplicity of overplayed Mariah Carey. - philly style/ kate bracaglia
"...a six-piece psychedelic/alt-rock outfit out of Philadelphia whose music is reminiscent of The Doors, The Velvet Underground and Spacemen 3..." - Brooklyn Rocks (Brooklyn Mike)
