Bio

Based in Eugene Oregon since 1988, Onomatopoeia have been riding the gamut of musical experimentation, from the early influences of Industrial Noise/Dance of Psychic TV, Blackhouse, SPK, Einsturzende Neubauten, to the worldly cultural influences of the Middle East, India, China and ancient civilizations of the past.

Members Arlan Schwarzbauer, Dr. Robert Wretch, and Vincent Ramirez have been collaborating musically for 22 years, from the humble beginnings of their first band, noise extremists Steamshovel Monkey in 1986, to the more refined tribal trance and 60's psychedelia of Onomatopoeia. These sonic pranksters bring their unique approach to electronic music to their live shows, incorporating varied instrumentation such as Chinese Erhu, analog synthesizers, drum machines, cello, railroad springs, electronic drums and various samples and field recordings. These cultural influences have infused Onomatopoeia's live shows into multimedia events utilizing video, performance art, and audience participation, combining new technologies of today with various ancient cultural rituals of the past.

Onomatopoeia have recorded extensively the past 22 years, from club performances, outdoor festivals, live radio sessions, house parties, late night jam sessions, to field recordings at railroad yards and junk yards. They have been in the process of archiving and editing these musical gems for future release, and will continue the process of electronic experimentation and exploration.
