The art of children’s storytelling is back with a 21st century twist. Introducing ON THE BACK PORCH, a creation of Daryl Robb of Down By The Docks and Crystal Mann of Rainbow Express. These two long term children’s entertainers have come together to record their first CD under the name ON THE BACK PORCH. The new CD, titled “Tales Tall & True”, which has been nominated for ECMA 2012 Children's Recording of the Year, features high energetic songs that have kids dancing and singing along.
The cool stories bring to life characters and events of years old folk tales and legends from Canada, the USA and around the world. Tales both tall and true.
Through song and story, ON THE BACK PORCH answers questions like who’s on the five dollar bill, who was Kate Shelley, did a horse really swim 7 miles to get home, why does a little boy have the bathtime blues, and much more. They also introduce musical versions of Mother Goose stories.
Daryl and Crystal bring their lobstertastic talents to create a high energy ON THE BACK PORCH show that is ideal for all members of the family, young and old. The live performance features original songs, old favourites, lots of audience participation and introduce their very special guests - Leroy the Lobster, James Beak Double "O" Penguin, and others.
Daryl Robb has spent the last 11 years with his show Down By The Docks (a 2007 ECMA nominee and 2006 Children’s Music Web finalist) traveling across Canada, parts of the USA and the Cayman Islands performing at libraries, schools, festivals and other events. He’s currently producing two TV pilots for children, Down By The Docks and On The Back Porch which inspired the recording of “Tales Tall & True”. Previously Down By The Docks had a community TV show that was available on many stations across North America.
Crystal Mann is a professional children’s entertainer most known as the founder and band leader of Rainbow Express. She has been performing and writing for children and family audiences for well over twenty years. She has performed at festivals and events, as well as corporate parties, schools and libraries across Nova Scotia. Crystal also teaches Kindermusik when not performing live and is currently writing her first children’s book.
