John Reese & Open Hearts

BandRockSinger/Songwriter

Original music by creative songwriters in a variety of styles, including rock, country, blues, and folk.

Biography

Singer-songwriter John Reese formed Open Hearts to perform his material in 1999. Since then, the band has recorded 3 CDs and performed at many Northern California venues.

Today, the core of the band consists of 3 songwriters with an astonishing stylistic breadth. The three perform intimate concerts and small venues as a trio, and add a well-rehearsed rhythm section for dances or large venues.

All five members of Open Hearts have been playing together since 2001. At times the band has swelled to as many as 8 members, but recent performances have been more compact.

Lyrics

My Baby's Eyes

Written By: John Reese

Chorus:

There are millions of stars in the sky, but none shine as bright as my baby's eyes.

I only wish that I could see, with all the wonder and love that my baby sees.

How it must feel to see things all new, feel there's nothing you couldn't do.

Fly like a bird and feel free as one too,

Wish I could start over with you.
I wish I could start over with you.

verse 1:

Watching you grow and play and learn, I see things that I missed or lost in their turn.

Doesn't matter though cause as time goes by,

I'm seeing it again through my baby's eyes,
I'm seeing it again through my baby's eyes.

Verse 2

What a great gift from heaven above, its like a second chance at childhood.

Just want to take you wherever I go, so I can see it through your eyes like it was all new.

Eyes shining bright, arms reaching for me, this must be like what heaven will be.

This must be like what heaven will be, This must be like what heaven will be.

It's All --- Right Now

Written By: John Reese

Verse 1:

To say you love,
Well that's alright.
But saying you need
Just crosses some lines.
We're here in this moment,
Living lives day by day.
If we can keep that in mind
It's much easier to see.

CHORUS:

That It's All --- Right Now.
It just takes time sometimes,
To figure the whole thing out.

That It's All --- Right Now.
It just takes time sometimes,
To figure the whole thing out

That It's All --- Right Now.
It's All --- Right Now.
It's All --- Right Now.
It's All --- Right Now.

Verse 2:

In the bigger picture,
It's all more clear,
That love is the answer
When not confused by fear.
The fear of rejection,
Fear of being alone.
That loss of connection,
Of being unknown.

CHORUS:
And It's All --- Right Now (etc.)

Verse 3:

In the bigger picture,
It's all more clear,
That love is the answer
When not confused by fear.
The fear of rejection,
Fear of being alone.
That loss of connection,
Of being unknown.

But we're never alone
We're all part of a whole
A much bigger connection
And the answer to all, is

CHORUS
That It's All --- Right Now
It just takes time sometimes,
To figure the whole thing out.

That It's All --- Right Now.
It just takes time sometimes,
To figure the whole thing out

That It's All --- Right Now.
It's All --- Right Now.
It's All --- Right Now.
It's All --- Right Now.

Internal Combustion

Written By: Bobby Lee and John Reese

Chorus:
Internal Combustion is a slow burning fire.
One hand on the throttle, one on your desire

Internal Combustion is a chemical fact
In the heat of the moment, caught up in the act.

Verse 1:
Masses of people moving this way and that.
Accosted by forces, barely time to react.
But under the surface, untouched by the rain,
Fueled with a purpose is a smoldering flame.

Chorus.

Verse 2:
Frozen in time, in a memory stilled,
Is the shadow of life in a dream unfulfilled.
Know that it's true, know there's no doubt:
When it reaches the end, the fire will go out.

Bridge:
Internal Combustion has a limit in time.
One eye on the stopwatch,
One on the design.

Internal Combustion in the palm of your hand.
It can slip through your fingers
Back to where it began!

Verse 3:
The warmth of a love, unique and intense,
A glow of contentment, commitment well spent,
Desire that gave meaning, in whole or in part,
To those other souls, to those open hearts.

Chorus:
Internal Combustion is a slow burning fire.
One hand on the throttle, one on your desire

Internal Combustion is a chemical fact
In the heat of the moment, caught up in the act.

Internal Combustion
Internal Combustion
Internal Combustion
