Ophelia ain't your average rapper. Ophelia is a new and vibrant artist whose live performances exude infectious energy. Standing at 6ft tall with bright blonde hair, Ophelia is often told “she doesn't look like she can rap” but, like plenty of things in this world, looks can be deceiving. This is one book you do not want to judge by its cover.
Born into a creative family, her Dad ran reggae nights in the early seventies, Ophelia grew up following the pop charts. She got her musical education from a diverse selection of artists; from Johnny Cash to Jimmy Cliff. In her early twenties she began writing her own lyrics, drawing on a variety of influences including Professor Green, Lily Allen and Jamie T.
But it wasn’t until Ophelia was travelling in America that she was first introduced to her contemporaries, plucking up the courage to rap at an open-mic night in San Francisco. She raised the roof in a tough Afro-American club, which is no mean feat, especially considering it was her first time on stage. On her return to the UK, fresh off her first on stage buzz, Ophelia began collaborating with producers and building her sound.
Ophelia is now focusing her energy on an amazing acoustic live set. She performs with acoustic guitarist, Federico Zinelli, and cajon player, Piero Malvestio. Their show has been described as "a breath of fresh air", "dynamic and energetic" and "a beautiful mix of punchy lyrics, lilting choruses, gorgeous guitar and lively cajon". On top of her live set Ophelia is about to embark on recording her first album, something she is very excited about.
Ophelia's creative talents extend beyond the microphone; she is an artist too! She sells her paintings in shops and auctions all over London to support her music habit.
