Ophir Drive

 Columbus, Georgia, USA

Vocalist Sarah J who “screams like Janis Joplin” and lead guitarist Jon mesh like fire and ice, bringing passion to the stage. Drummer John Phillips adds his unending energy while bassist Austin Davis brings his uniquely melodic style to the low end, adding creativity to the soulful rock.

Six drummers, four bassists, two tour vans, and one album later, Ophir Drive is re-establishing itself as Columbus GA's top soulful rock band. 2010 saw the successful release of a new album, weekend tours once a month, and over 100 live performances around the southeast. This year they look forward to new members, new recordings, and playing new music at new venues.

After an official debut of the new lineup to a packed house in January 2011, Ophir Drive is back in the groove with a darker yet more melodic sound. Vocalist/guitarist Sarah J who “screams like Janis Joplin” (The Chatty Hoochee Mama, May 2010) and “lightning fast lead guitarist” (Doug Cox, June 2010) Jon mesh like fire and ice, bringing passion and vigor to the front of the stage. Drummer and multi-instrumentalist John Phillips not only keeps time but adds his unending energy to everything that passes through his hands. Bassist Austin Davis brings his uniquely melodic style to the low end, adding counterpoint and creativity to the soulful rock.

Jon Edwards and Sarah J joined forces in early 2009 with a shared passion for loud rock, expensive guitars, and smooth alcohol. Their demanding gig schedule was interrupted solely to record an album in January 2010, and they were back on stage almost immediately. Constantly gigging can take its toll on anyone, and the duo spent most of 2010 with a rotating rhythm section depending on who was available. As luck would have it, two of the area's most talented rhythm players were looking for a full-time band by November, and Ophir Drive was ready for them. Austin Davis and John Phillips brought the low end and high energy back to the band. The quartet is headed back into the studio in March to record all-new original material and possibly some crowd-favorite covers. They are also currently booking for spring and beyond.
