"Kansas City Hip-Hop: Opie Tailor Made"

Check a rather NICE video featuring the Kansas City skyline after dark. Opie Tailor Made - "3rd Time's A Charm" drops some rather hardcore beats and lyrics but still manages to achieve a nice flow. - Tony's Kansas City

"It's time for a change... and that change comes now..."

The name is Austin Mathis, But he goes by Opie Tailor Made.He has been producing, writing, and recording local Kansas City rap, hip-hop, and R&B for almost 15 years. In those 15 years, He says he has seen it all… and heard it all, too! All the questions… all the answers… all the reason… all the mishaps… all the bad luck… all the drama… oh yeah don’t forget all the hating! “O” has seen some of the most talented artists of his generation go un-noticed, and seen some of the least talented artists of his generation sky-rocket to fame and stardom!. “And Now it’s My Turn”……

B.B: So can you tell us some of the places you performed?

O.P: I have performed all over the city, but nothing recent. I fell back years ago into a more Executive role. I developed my production company, FlyBoy Music Group, and focused on mentoring my up and coming producers, who have now moved on to bigger and better things.

B.B: Did you attend any school for music?

O.P: No I didn’t go to school for music… in fact… I went to college and got my degree in Electronics Engineering, which is totally opposite of any Arts type degree.

Everything I have achieved came from trial and error… practice makes perfect. Reading books, articles, forum posts, collaborating with other industry pros… you know… trial by fire.

B.B: Can you name some of the local artist that have worked with over the years?

O.P: I’ve worked with a whole host of local talent, probably too many to name. But I’ll try… just for the sake of argument.

Arch Bishop, Swagg, Jae Casino, V.V., Sic Vic, Midknight, Keed tha Heater, XL da King, Stook da Sav, Problem Child (aka Juggknot), Alan Wayne (aka Pradagy), Sleepy Mario (aka Sleep Teflon), Romeo Ryonell, Elite, Locust, Scugger, Sikknez, Trilogy, Coast Free, Cocoa Da Princess, Cutty Locc, D-Young, D-Rich, Joey Sunday, John P, Lil’ Mike, Nick B, R. Dolla, Rico Ricardo, Toto, White Mike, Wild Child, and Young Keese… just to name a few. LoL…

B.B: So why did you go solo with your music career?

O.P: I basically got tired of the headaches associated with working with individual artists on their own projects, because more often than not, the projects would never materialize. I would provide records for artists that I never heard on albums, because the albums never got finished. I got fed up with that cycle, and decided to set the standard. With that, came “I Support My City”. The commitment is to continue the series every 3-4 months with a new volume, until I can’t break even. It’s not a get rich quick scheme. It’s not a hustle. It’s an incredible opportunity for artists to come into my private studio and work with me one on one… and honestly, its panning out to be an incredible venture!

Bio

In an industry that has seen its share of fly-by-night acts, Austin “Opie Tailor Made” Mathis is the REAL DEAL! He exudes RAW talent! As a current and active member of Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), Austin Mathis has taken on the executive role of operating his own production company, FlyBoy Music Group, in addition to establishing a superb street team.

During the past 15 years, Opie Tailor Made has written, produced, and performed for the Hip-Hop music community of his hometown – Kansas City, Missouri. With the recent release of I Support My City - Volume 02, his own exclusive mixtape series, Opie Tailor Made is now seeking to acquire the next ‘cream of the crop’ talent to be featured in the third installment of the series.

Several fascinating facts about Opie Tailor Made include the vision he made into reality, and the concept of collaborating with local artists in manifesting his compilations. Artists were personally invited to work with Opie on an advanced level of studio production. Artists were given the opportunity to experience the entire scope of the production, including time to write and listen to the composed compilations, from the introduction to the final track. This is simply Opie’s way of giving back to the community – in a “You have to give respect, to get respect” kind of way.

The following quotes are from Opie Tailor Made in his You Tube smash hit, “All I Got” – “Just brush it off, don’t quit! Keep pressin’ your luck! Because the only ones that fail, don’t try. . . I gotta give it all I got!”

When asked what advice he would give to beginning artists, he replied simply, “If you don’t love music, chances are you’re getting into the business for all the wrong reasons. It takes years of courage, dedication, determination, and hard work to make a living as a musician. . . It starts with a passion for music. If you don’t have that, you either need to find it or forget about it!!”
