From South Africa, to China, to the US, Orange Free State comes from different backgrounds and cultures making their music universal and inventive.
They fall comfortably in the alternative genre and use acoustic guitar, bass, and piano to create driving songs.
Vian and Hein Zaayman started writing original tunes in 2006. They continued to progress as a songwriting duo. Their songs were complemented by bassist Stone Yu's quirky and sometimes unorthodox bass lines. Stone joined the brothers in 2009, changing OFS from a coffee shop duo to an all out acoustic/alternative band.
Since the members hail from Africa and China they have strong beliefs in social change and creating a better world through music.
