The Story of Orbit
Orbit was founded in the summer of 2009 by Ashleigh (lead guitar), and Matthew G (bass guitar), in Surrey, BC Gavin joined on rhythm guitar in August, and with original drummer Luke and singer Diana, played a couple shows in the fall/early winter. Current drummer Matt S joined Orbit in October 2009, and lead singer Sam joined in early January 2010 — finally Orbit was complete! The band played over a dozen shows in 2010, including Surrey City Jam, Langley’s Terry Fox Run and Concerts In The Park series, Cyclebetes (for juvenile diabetes), Langley’s Canada Day celebration and many, many more. 2011 is progressing nicely, with several shows already played/booked. In early 2010 Orbit added a Facebook page, and in late 2010 moved their band website to www.orbitrockband.wordpress.com, where you find it now.
Orbit was started as a ‘fun’ project, but has grown beyond the members wildest expectations. The young ages of its members belie the maturity of their playing, and their many, many live performances continue to hone their skills. Orbit started off playing primarily cover versions of popular songs ranging from The Beatles and The Who, through to Green Day, Wolfmother, Nirvana….even the Black Eyed Peas! Then in late 2010 Orbit added their first original song “Forever We’ll Be”, which immediately became a key part of their live set. As of summer 2011 they were writing material for a demo CD, with recording scheduled for Sept/Oct
