"It rocks. Big time"

Orbo & The Longshots with “Genuine Handmade Rock ‘n’ Roll” doing exactly what it says on the tin

Singer/songwriter Orbo (AKA Ole Reinert Berg-Olsen) grew up in Norway, playing the guitar and writing songs. In Norwegian. After deciding that he was unlikely to get his messages across outside of Norway, he switched to writing in English. In 2000 he formed The Longshots, a full-on rock n roll band, who then left their home country to embark on a musical pilgrimage to Memphis, Tennessee.

There they recorded their second album, “Genuine Handmade Rock n Roll” at the renowned Sun Studio, and then headed on to Nashville to team up with, amongst others, Kevin Welch (who co-wrote “My Widow”). The resulting album is a great homage to the genre, and it’s easy to tell that this group of musicians know and love this line of musical history.

Their music has all right elements: killer tunes, slick production, kick-ass vocals, and great lyrics with enough-heart-on-sleeve action to come across as convincingly sincere, not forced or plastic. “Genuine Handmade Rock n Roll” serves as a cheeky wink in the direction towards the likes of Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, and Brian Setzer. Their songs are eclectic, and are all very likable – it’s impossible to become bored listening to this album.

In short, it rocks. Big time. - Americana UK

Bio

Norwegian Rock’n’Roll/Americana band ORBO & The Longshots is one of the hardest working live bands in Norway. After ten years of touring this band has learned their craft the hard way on the road. In 2008 they were awarded the Norwegian Grammy for their album ‘High Roller’. This year they will celebrate 1000 live shows, including support slots with Little Feat, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Delbert McClinton.

ORBO & The Longshots has recorded their albums all over the world from the mountains of Norway to the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, TN. Their new album Prairie Sun was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in CA and was produced by Orbo & Erick Jaskowiak (Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Ralph Stanley and Del McCoury). The record features special guests Delbert McClinton, Fats Kaplin, (Buddy Miller, Waylon Jennings) John Jorgenson (Elton John, Earl Scruggs) and Mike Henderson (Bonnie Raitt, Mark Knopfler).

Prairie Sun Studios, which has hosted artists such as Paul McCartney and Tom Waits, provided the perfect mix of vintage gear and a rural setting that added to the organic feel of the new record. The band was so happy with the results of their work that they decided to call the new record Prairie Sun in honor of the great time they had making the record there.
