Orchestra of Spheres

From humble beginnings in Wellington, New Zealand, Orchestra of Spheres have developed a cult-like following around the world, playing house parties, dance parties, DIY shows, accredited venues, festivals and opera houses. The Spheres have built a reputation for musically and visually ecstatic live shows.

As well as numerous NZ tours, The Spheres have toured through Europe 3 times, playing festivals including ATP, Le Guess Who, Mimi, Flow and many more. They have released 2 full-length albums on Fire Records (UK): Nonagonic Now (2011) and Vibration Animal Sex Brain Music (2013), as well as 3 EPs on other labels. 

The Spheres are a 4-piece band: Baba Rossa on biscuit tin guitar/vocals, Mos Iocoss on synth/theremin/vocals, EtonalE on bass carillon/vocals and Tooth on drums. They use their own homemade inventions such as the bass carillon, sexomouse marimba and biscuit tin guitar to give them their trademark sound. Before their tour van was robbed in Poland they also incorporated an ancient Balinese gamelan instrument into their shows .. they're now building a 21st century replacement gamelan!

Like celestial sponges, Orchestra of Spheres draw on influences far to create their cosmic dancing sound: kuduro, fire music, free jazz, psychedelic disco, kosmische, mbalax, avant garde composition, juke/footwork ... they've been compared to Can, Sun Ra, George Clinton, Shangaan Electro amongst others.
