Bio

The Origami Llamas is a two-piece rock group consisting of the guitarist/vocalist Rob Hauer and the drummer/keyboardist/vocalist Lara von Haught. Born of the aftershocks of the commercialization of "Alternative Rock" during the mid 1990's, the group's sound blends noisy guitars, primitive drums and haunting piano and strings with pretty melodies. The Llamas existed on and off in different forms, playing shows rarely and without notice at small rock clubs across the nation and developed a near phantasm-like reputation for most of the last decade of the 20th century. The group's experiences in the studio typically ended in frustration, the sole exception being the track "Hot Sleeper" which was released on a now impossible to find split 7-inch with the Whoremongers on the Japanese imprint Dumb Records in 1995. A brief tour of Japan followed in early 1996, during which rumors in the indie rock press began to circulate that the group was about to sign a worldwide deal with Capitol-EMI, Epic or Sire Records. However, the band announced at a show at Osaka's Upsidedown Club that they were going on an "indefinite hiatus." No explanation was given.

Ten years later the group has rematerialized, now based in the Los Angeles area. Their first full-length recording, Dud, was released in July 2007, on the new musicthing label and is available in its entirety as a free download from www.musicthing.org. Tour plans are apparently in the works.

The track "Should Have Enjoyed It While It Lasted" was recently featured in the season finale of the NBC show Friday Night Lights.
