Bio

The Stone City Band has an incredible story that spans the last four decades. During the 1970's through to the late 1990's the music of the Temptations, Rick James, New Edition, MC Hammer, Teena Marie, Bobby Brown, and the Mary Jane Girls, have graced the international top ten charts. All these artists have something in common - they were all backed up by the same musicians from the same band. This band originally was named "The Stone City Band" by Rick James in 1979 and they have remained a powerhouse of talent ever since. They have toured and recorded and have been heard worldwide on numerous hits from the artists mentioned above such as: “You and I”, “Mary Jane”, “Bustin' Out”, Give it to Me Baby”, the Grammy winning "Superfreak" in 1981, "Love Gun", "Ghetto Life", "My Prerogative", "Can't Touch This", “Tenderoni” and "Ain't no Humpin' Around" just to name a few. Known as the King of Punk Funk, and the bad boys of Motown, Rick James and the Stone City Band blended the hard core funk of their predecessors James Brown, Sly Stone and George Clinton with the Rock and Roll theatrics of the Rolling Stones and Kiss. Rick James was the quintessential "Super Freak," a term he coined in the 1980's with the multi-platinum song he wrote, arranged, produced and performed on sharing that same title. The single catapulted the album Street Songs to 1 on the R&B charts and 3 on the pop charts. This mega-talented, multi-Grammy and American Music Award winner played at least five different instruments and had not only sold millions himself, he wrote and produced many songs featuring performances by the Stone City Band for Eddie Murphy, Mary Jane Girls, The Temptations, Teena Marie and Smokey Robinson, all selling millions as well. Music featuring the Stone City Band has been licensed for sampling to artists such as Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu and MC Hammer, whose sample of "Super Freak" for the hit single "U Can't Touch This" made the album "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" the biggest selling rap album in history . They have performed live at the Grammy's and the American music awards and have appeared on numerous Television shows. They have played to a sold out Wembley Stadium in England for an amazing seven nights in a row. They have already established a large international fan base just waiting for their upcoming concert tour dates and productions which will feature new songs, and working with other featured artists, such as NYOIL, who is featured in the July 2007 issue of 'THE SOURCE' magazines' 'Real Talk' section, and singer/entertainer GOLDIE 'OG' GILLESPIE from Los Angeles.
