Bio

It was the year 2005 when a merry bunch of musicians from various aggregations came together with an intent to revive the “larger-than-life” sound of 80s rock, and add a contemporary, funk-laden twist to it. At a time when the musical climate dictated bands to ditch the guitar solo and adopt a fetish for low-slung jeans and high strung lyrics, these Delhi boys were quite content penning dangerously cheerful ditties with sing-along choruses, vocal harmonies and, blasphemy of all blasphemies, multiple guitar solos! With bassist Ram and drummer Anshul forming the backbone a tight-as-a-noose rhythm section, they formed the ideal soundscape for vocalist Aditya’s Vedder-esque incantations and the shred unit, Baan and Tridib, to blaze their way through with delightful guitar licks and solos. With Aditya having to leave in late 2006 to pursue a solo music career, Oritus welcomed Robin into the fold, a young vocalist with tremendous potential and the ideal voice for Oritus’ sound.

Musical virtuosity apart, Oritus have also honed to a nicety the art of crafting a song or two. Resolute in their stance of playing music that is original, honest and straight-from-the-heart, Oritus have honed their sound to a point now where they can safely create music without genre limitations. Songs like ‘Jack the Ripper’, ‘The Aaaa...Song’, the delightful instrumental ‘Ctrl.Alt.Del’ and acoustic gems like ‘Many a Mile’ made their presence felt as Oritus set about establishing a name for themselves by playing the competition circuit through 2005. Victories at BITS Pilani and IIT Roorkee, among others, were garnered as the band went from strength to strength. 2006 saw them playing a spate of gigs and alongside, pocketing the award for "Album/EP of the year" for the Oritus EP, at the Jack Daniel Backstage Tennessee Indian Rock Awards.

Four years on, Oritus finds itself in a comfort zone of sorts, stronger and keener than ever before. Listening and absorbing to as much music as they can, the band has zeroed in on its musical direction, yet building constantly on it; a veritable carte blanche, if you will, of creativity. Never before has the songwriting process been as full of vigour and enthusiasm and with Robin’s entrance offering a fresh perspective, the possibilities seems limitless. For the bunch of carefree musicians who form Oritus, however, it’s still all about having a ton of fun.
