"Orpheo and the Wrench loosen screws"

Orpheo and the Wrench takes the fold-rock standard of a guitar and a violin duet and creates a whole new being, reminiscent of the works of Tenacious D, Modest Mouse, and Kid Cudi.

The pair could easily be described as quirky: donning tap shoes, mis-matched socks, and making verbally sophisticated cracks at one another throughout the set.

Though starkly opposite of one another, the best friends' close connection acts as a warm comfort for those listening, adding a familiarity to their sound. - UCD Advocate

"Sad Little Monster (Nothing Left to Say)" is the first track on the newly released EP album by Orpheo and the Wrench, a Boulder-based duo that is starting to build a loyal and rapidly growing following throughout the Denver metro area and other parts of the world. Their original words and music cross a variety of genre lines to touch your soul in ways you might find completely surprising. With word and music by Steve Erwin and Carter Baird, the five songs on this demo album show a range of musical ability and subtle poetic interpretation rarely found on the new indie music scene today. With Baird on the violin and percussion, Erwin on the guitar and piano, and both of their voices blended into haunting harmonies, this collection leaves the listener begging for more. From the sobering lyrics filled with soulful imagery and ironic twists to the complex musical structure with surprising, but entirely effective, shifts in tempo, these songs show raw talent on the verge of genius, just waiting to be discovered by the indie music afficianados throughout the world. The disc really cannot be pigeon-holed into any one genre, since the songs contain elements of country, acoustic rock, hip-hopabilly, and a touch of Celtic folk in their mostly upbeat presentations. Covering a wide range of emotions, from longing to heartbreak to murderous rage, the poetic lyrics in these songs will keep you thinking about them as the music gets stuck in your head, even in your sleep. The five songs in the collection include "Sad Little Monster (Nothing Left to Say)", "Black Monday", "One Last Time", "Six Empty Bottles" and "13 Narrow." This collection is well worth a free listen on Orpheo and the Wrench's Bandcamp page, where you can also download the whole collection or individual songs for a fraction of what the songs are worth. There is also a YouTube video that features "Sad Little Monster" which is entertaining. A refreshing, soulful, insightful, disturbing, and ultimately beautiful album, the listener can only hope the band will be touring in his or her town soon, and that many more brilliant songs will follow this initial offering. - netlog.com

Bio

Simmering in the deepest depths of Denver’s underground, an indie alchemy of acoustic folk, rock, irony, comedy, and hip-hop waits to be discovered. Patiently they prepare for the day when they will face in rhetorical combat the peddlers of bullshit and the manufacturers of soulless mainstream music.
Near the end of 2009, in the frozen cornfeilds of Eastern Iowa, two Cornell College students, Steve Erwin and Carter Baird, began jamming together. After graduation, they returned to their Colorado homeland and established themselves on the Boulder open-mic circuit. Combining a little bit of cash with their experience on those fifteen-minute trials-by-fire, they cut their debut EP, You Don’t Know You How Me Proud I Am, at Coupe Studios. After its release, the duo moved down to Denver and have been working venues like The Meadowlark and The Mercury CafÊ to reach as many ears as possible and gain a foothold in the underground indie music scene.
They continue to cut recordings for their first full-length album in their apartment in Edgewater (title and track list to come) while they tirelessly develop their stage show. They strive to combine their music with projections, comedy, sketches, and even dance to give the audience an event they will never forget. As a band they want to deliver their message of radical tolerance, music as medicine, and ending the separations. Believing in the power of comedy, they want the world to know that the only thing worse than other people is solitude. Orpheo & the Wrench have spent years honing their craft and need only a patient investor and some dedicated fans to change the face of Colorado music forever!
