"LIVE REVIEW! Bloodstock M2TM - KK's Steel Mill, Wolverhampton Heat #6"

"The first of tonight’s five bands are Orpheus, a brummie five piece avant-garde progressive metal outfit. The sound is expansive, from soft melodic intros to meandering riffs and powerful story telling lyrics. Reminding me of latter day Anathema the band have a full atmospheric sound, one that could fill an arena let alone the small room at KK’s Steel Mill. The set is note perfect for a full half an hour, but have they done enough to win over the fans and judges votes?" - Tim Finch - The Revival Music

Bio

Born in Kecskemét, Hungary, Bassist Dávid Fokti relocated to the UK at a young age and began developing the musical ideas which would eventually become Orpheus. Irish guitarist Niall Creane had also relocated to Birmingham in 2011 to pursue a musical education and form a band in the birthplace of heavy metal. The two eventually crossed paths studying music at Birmingham City University, and instantly bonded over a mutual appreciation for Architects, Tool and Gojira. The two began sharing ideas in September of 2016, inspired by the likes of Gojira, Karnivool, Lamb of God and Meshuggah. They then set about finding a vocalist and drummer to complete the lineup. After what seemed like a long and fruitless search, having trialled numerous musicians, they eventually found the perfect fit.
This came in the form of a classmate of Niall’s; vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Luis Morrison, who was brought into the fold alongside his long-time friend and bandmate - drummer Ben Newton.

Excited by what they had heard in the demos, the two Birmingham natives eagerly jumped into the rehearsal room, and the group quickly realised they were onto something special.

With the lineup now complete, the band continued writing for several weeks and did an exclusive one off performance in July of 2017. Following the success of this performance, they decided to retreat into the studio to work on more material and develop their live show.

2018 saw the band knuckle down to build a cohesive and expansive list of songs; Pushing themselves to become tighter, more inventive and more exciting onstage, they spent a whole year shaping their set and preparing music for release.

At long last, November 2018 finally saw the release of their long awaited debut single Osiris, which received UK wide radio play and praise from industry insiders such as Dave Moorefrom Irish radio show Today FM

Blending mind-bending grooves, comparable with the likes of Gojira and Meshuggah, with powerhouse vocals akin to Alter Bridge and Led Zeppelin, Osiris established the sound of a new force in the West Midlands metal scene, foregoing harsh vocals and 7 strings in favour of epic melodies and intricate guitar play, bridging the gap between the roots of metal and it’s future - these Birmingham boys pay homage to the home of metal, whilst reinvigorating the scene with their forward thinking approach to songwriting. Early 2019 saw the addition of new guitarist Daniel Beard, paving the way for the band to begin promoting their first release on the live circuit.

Their debut show finally came around in March, when they took to the O2 academy in Birmingham for a rousing 30 minutes of gut punching riffs and elastic vocals. Hot on the heels of their debut performance, they shared the stage with Blood Church, Atarka, 14 Pieces and Master Charger at the esteemed KK’s Steel Mill (owned by K.K Downing of Judas Priest fame) for Metal 2 the Masses and a chance to play Bloodstock. Swiftly followed by a raucous night of riffing fury at The Station in Cannock with their friends in Call to the Faithful and Paper Castles. Most recently they performed with Embers of Eden at the Asylum 2 in Birmingham, as support on their spring UK tour. Garnering praise for their technical wizardry and the way they seamlessly blend modern metal with classic metal elements, Orpheus are fast becoming a force to contend with on the West Midlands scene and 2019 seems set to be a big year for a band with a big sound.
