Biography

Orris was born out of a genuine desire to create something truly unique and nakedly honest. Orris has fused soundscapes and songs with authenticy through exploration, crafting what would ultimately result in a whole new sound comparable to Coldplay and U2 meet Bright Eyes and Sigur Ros. Building textural soundscapes centered around piano and voice, Orris conjured the sound Music Connection Magazine predicts “will win fans among anyone looking for music with a soul.

Raised in Twin Peaks and Chicago, Orris is the son of an ordained minister. By the age of four, he was singing and playing piano competitively and in his teen years went on to win a vocal scholarship to the Wheaton Conservatory where he studied voice, piano and composition. During his studies, he ventured outside the traditional curriculum and delved into experimental exploration of sound, as well as a long-suppressed attraction to Eastern forms of meditation and spirituality.

Orris' spiritual and creative intentions have resulted in music reviewers say “makes you believe you’re experiencing something big, is “intriguing and wholly unique and in the end, seeks to give something genuine to its audience.

Lyrics

Please

Written By: David Orris

taking root
inside the storm
and I guess
I was never really
what you wanted
built my tower to the sky
to watch myself
from up above
where angels fly

but on the ground
it’s still the same
I’m still the object
of your objection
still the boy
who bears your name

please
I just want you to see me
please
I just want to be heard

falling fast
from my tower
am I too old to grieve this child

the ground keeps coming
so much harder
in the dirt
I see my heart
abandoned in the desert
still waiting for my life to start

please
I just want you to see me
please
I just want to be heard
after all these years in chains
all the years I’ve
lived in shame
please
please, I just want to be loved

maybe I don’t
need you now
maybe I’m just lost at sea
you look like a photograph
calling from the shore to me

please
I just want you to see me
please
I just want to be heard
after all these years in chains
all the years I’ve lived in shame
please
please, I just want to be loved
because I love to be loved

White Light

Written By: David Orris

I still see the star
You left behind
Its light has burnt out
But only now reaches my eyes

I still feel the fire
You never let die
Now I am that heat
Now I am that light
That light

Let white light
Rain down and
Envelop my body
Take me to
The path of love

I don’t know your name
But I know this place
I remember this rain
I remember your face

Maybe you loved me
On some distant planet
Maybe I held you
Before time began this
Began this

Let white light
Rain down and
Envelop my body
Take me to
The path of love
Roads I’ve never known
Take me back to myself
Please take me back home

I don’t know about tomorrow
Let it take care of itself
Let me climb down from the lighthouse
Stand in the power of this storm until it quells

Let white light
Rain down and
Envelop my body
Take me to
The path of love
On this long journey home
Roads I’ve never known
Take me back to myself
Please take me back home

What If This Is All There Was

Written By: David Orris

Listen closer
To the colder voices
Reaching through their strain
Touch their shadows
disappearing
as I look them in the face

Drink the magic
Taste the bitterness of
This familiar pain
Welcome, darkness
Weighing only heavy as
These familiar, fearful chains

What if this is all there was
The unseen cords of seamless trust
What if this is all there was
The illusion of me
The perfection of us
What if this is all there was
No future
No time
Nothing to leave behind

Underwater
Swept beneath the current
Straining for a breath
Only water
Under desert sky
Can slow the hand of death

Letting myself breathe
Letting my soul free

What if this is all there was
The unseen cords of seamless trust
What if this is all there was
The illusion of me
The perfection of us
What if this is all there was
No future
No time
Nothing to leave behind

Let the churches rage
Watch the demons seethe
The universe inside of you
Inside of me inside of you inside of me
Flowing free
Flowing free

What if this is all there was
The unseen cords of seamless trust
What if this is all we are
The nothingness of bliss and scars
What if this is all there was
No future
No time
Nothing to leave behind
