"Oscar Key Sung – It’s Coming / Sure Thing"

I’m going to place these before you largely without comment. Actually you know I’m not going to be able to help myself, without a LOT of comment. Two new tracks from Oscar that are mouthwateringly good and are pretty indicative of the direction he’s heading. I think his strength lies in his constant evolution and we’re seeing the mid-to-end stage of his most recent metamorphosis. I’m rather glad to be able to share with you a talent as prodigious as this man so it’s hard for me to avoid gushing out something overly weighty and pregnant with praise. I’ll simply say that there’s a bright future for any individual who can drop tracks like these on a whim. The first is a slow building beast that speaks volumes about Oscar’s attention to production while the second is a cover of Miguel’s Sure Thing that doesn’t deviate too far from the original. The key lesson learned here though, is that the guy has a set of pipes on him. We always knew he could knock up a legitimate beat but this is a hell of a vocal showing. For those interested to see how this translates live then your time is nigh, come see him headline at FBI Social on Thursday, 30th May. - Sound Doctrine

""make a love song sound ominous.""

Oscar Key Sung (Oscar Vincent Slorach-Thorn), R’n'B revivalist and mega babe, has just dropped a couple of new tracks on his Bandcamp – the weighty ‘It’s Coming’ and a cover of Miguel‘s ‘Sure Thing’. He’s been performing them live for a little while now, causing outbreaks of krumping and general frisson all around town. The kid’s sure got a pair of lungs on him: stark and emotive, his version of ‘Sure Thing’ rivals the slick showmanship of the original.

The highlight, however, is definitely Slorach-Thorn’s own creation. Built out of loops from his voluminous collection of cassettes, ‘It’s Coming’ has the glitchy production, playful samples and great ear for melody that we know from his work with Oscar + Martin. This feels like a progression though – it’s darker and sexier than his earlier stuff. Like The Weeknd, Oscar has the uncanny ability to make a love song sound ominous. - Who The Hell

"Single Review"

Melbourne duo Oscar + Martin never really did it for me, but the solo output from Oscar Key Sung goes down a treat. It’s Coming is all kinds of incredible, a triumphant showcase of vocal chops and resounding production skills – even though it sounds like it samples a honking goose (cannot un-hear). The B-side is a Miguel cover, and inviting the comparison works in Oscar’s favour. - See more at: http://www.beat.com.au/music/oscar-key-sung-its-coming#sthash.5wpLOofS.dpuf - Inpress Magazine

Bio

At 23 years of age, Melbourne-based singer / songwriter / producer Oscar Key Sung has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the most prodigious new talents in Australia's vibrant indie music landscape.

A seasoned performer across a wealth of festivals such as Falls, Meredith, Sugar Mountain, Melbourne Music Week and coveted support slots with St Vincent, Four Tet, Metronomy and Gotye, Oscar spent the majority of 2012 in the studio; working on his debut album under his Key Sung moniker, whilst also managing a quick succession of eps with his positive hip-hop duo Brothers Hand Mirror.

Bringing in 2013 with perhaps his biggest breakthrough yet, Oscar Key Sung was handpicked by Mercury Music Prize-nominated mc Ghostpoet and Brooklyn-based artist MeLo-X to produce their debut release as MELOGHOST, 'WecanWORKitout'. Quickly receiving over 44,000 plays and with further collaborations in the pipeline, Oscar's latest single 'WIMLTM' recently clocked 20,000 plays with no associated promotional backing or performances.

Now receiving further spins and the tastemaking praise of BBC Radio 6 programmer Gilles Peterson, Oscar Key Sung is now set to bring his starling story to the international stage with two promotional singles ('It's Coming' and 'Sure Thing', to be released leading up to his debut residency available via oscarkeysung.bandcamp.com in late May.
