Bio

Born on January 12, 1965, Oscar started to play the drums at the early age of 10. From 1984 till 1990 he studied under the tutelage of Viktor Oskam and Gerhard Jeltes at the Conservatory of Hilversum.
During his study Oscar was very active in all kind of formations and projects including the Fusion group “last Resort” under the guidance of vibraphonist Carl Schulze.
With this group he performed on many stages including the North sea Jazzfestival, the Netherlands Jazz Day’s in the city of Zwolle and the Jazz festivals in Laren, Maastricht, Alkmaar and Middelburg.
He also performed in Jazz clubs such as Dizzy in Rotterdam. Theatre Pepijn in The Hague, BIMhuis and Hofgeest in Amsterdam and Vollebregt in Laren.
Furthermore he could be heard on three different occaisions on live broadcasts on the TROS radio program, Sesjun.
In July and August of 1993 Oscar was involved in the theatre production “The Shrew” in the “Amsterdamse Bos” open air theatre.
From August till November 1996 he played in the theatre production of “Eiland” in Amsterdam and from March till May 1997 with the musical “Eindeloos” of the production company Bergen.
In November 1998 he was in the modern classical production of “Gershwin in Blue” composed by Chiel Meyering and Lodewijk de Boer with participation of the “Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet” and the “Netherlands Chamber Choir”.
Oscar was again in the revival of the theatre production of “Eiland” during November and December 1998.
He was also part of the cast of “Broadway Soul Jam” in Showbizzcity.
You can hear Oscar on the CD “Carving up Time”of British trombonist Robert Jarvis.
In September 2000 Oscar joined the Hugh hopper band during their performance at Dizzy in Rotterdam and BIMhuis in Amsterdam.
From September till December 2001, Oscar shared the drumseat with Kim Weemhoff of the group Mathilde Santing and the Oversoul Seven during their New Amsterdam Tour and in June 2000 at the “Oerol” Festival with Praful.
Nowaday’s Oscar is very active with his own projects.
He has a particulair interest in the opportunities of computers and the internet provide in producing (composing) music.
The result is the production of his own CD JazzMezz.
A CD on wich many Dutch jazz musicians can be heard with computer generated music.
All compositions on this CD were produced by Oscar with the cooperation of fellow musicians.
He is also involved in producing/remixing by the means of internet with among others, bass player Gary willis.
Oscar has the unique gift of bringing together a cohensive group of musicians.
This is also the mark of a good producer.
