"Premiere: Listen to Osei The Native's "Bout It""

While relatively new to the scene, Osei The Native has managed turn heads with an arsenal of catchy hooks, a barrage of confident flows, and a unwavering, commanding cadence. For months now, the Mississauga rapper has limited his SoundCloud page to just one single, the staccato-driven banger "Bernie Mac". It was an introductory song that showcased Osei's handle of melodic grit and self-awareness, generating enough buzz to land him on stage at last year's uTopia Music Festival. Remaining mostly in the shadows, the lyricist is finally preparing to release more music this week - and with it, he's aiming to have his voice heard. Today, Osei The Native is debuting his latest and second single, "Bout It". The bouncy cut allows him to weave throughout throwback instrumentation, this time provided by Nahum, who delivers a terrific horn-laced beat.

Speaking with Complex CA via email, Osei states that "Bout It" was born from social isolation. "The song came from a time where I had disconnected myself from the usual routine," the rapper says. "I took a break from work, school and only kept a few friends around in attempts to gain perspective on a couple issues I had been internalizing. The inspiration behind it is just being comfortable doing your own thing and not get caught up in the hype/wave. Truth is, that's easier said than done so in my opinion. It's a process we as people work on everyday with all the distractions out there."

"Osei The Native – 30 Thirty Fly (Free EP Album)"

Mississauga based freshman artists Osei the Native makes his first appearance to the big stage with his newly released 6-track EP, 30 Thirty Fly. While most artists drop an EP with one or two fire tracks and fill the remaining space with place holder songs; Osei gives you quality over quantity. He will have the listener finding they can’t move to the next song due to their unavoidable desire to replay a track. The EP features 4 different producers; Freddie Joachim who’s responsible for Chuuch, Stay Up and Tonight, Laffeld who put together FAM, Duhmeterz Beatz working Suburban Safari and the native himself working the board on We Used To Roll. He features another rookie Mississauga artist, Jo Keyz, on Tonight. The tracks themselves come with an easy rider sound, something that you can’t necessarily twerk or nae-nae to in a club, but definitely has that head-bobbing grown sound that has become so scarce in the industry today. The EP is now available to stream and download online. All-in-all this is a local cat that everyone and anyone who appreciates good music needs to be aware of. "Song of the Day: Osei The Native released a new track & you will be “Bout It”"

Mississauga, ON – In an industry where people are constantly trying to feed the wave or follow the path, it is refreshing to see an artist like Osei The Native, who is so confident is his craft and so comfortable in his own direction. A quick glance at his SoundCloud page might lead you to believe that the the Mississauga rapper is new to the scene, but those who have been following him over the last few years know that he has been one of the most underrated artists in the city, with such great potential.

He has performed all over Toronto including shows like uTOpia Fest (Jan. 2016), UNCRWND (March 2016) and most recently, Winter’s Interlude this past January where he performed his new single “Bout It” live for the first time.

There are very few rappers who can effortlessly ride a beat quite like Osei The Native. Pair that rhythm with an infectious melodic vocal tone and you have the Nahum-produced banger, “Bout It.” The recent release from Osei, outlines an “out with the bad, in with the good” mentality where the rapper finds himself coming to terms with certain setbacks and finding ways to keep moving forward. “Bout It” really allows the listener to step into Osei’s world and is a testament to his self assurance and confidence in his own craft.

"[AUDIO] OSEI, THE NATIVE - "BERNIE MAC""

Looks like The Weeknd and PARTYNEXTDOOR won't be the only new acts to break out of Mississauga, Ontario in recent years. Joining the wave is Ghana-rooted recording artist Osei, The Native. In new track, "Bernie Mac", produced by Greg McGovern and Say Nada. Osei exhibits his content of being an impressive cultured well-rounded artist.

“You don’t understand, I ain’t scared of you motherfuckers," is the inspired quote from legendary comedian Bernie Mac that starts this slow burning track.
