"Ghanaian artist breaks new ground"

After releasing an anthology called Verses for the Masses, Osekre has embarked on a music project. The Poet, Host, Writer, Speaker, Lyricist, Producer, is the band leader for Verses for the Masses, based in New York City. You can watch and listen to his music on his Myspace and Youtube.

The premier single is We are going. The music video is co-produced and co-directed by Oskere and Mandela Gregoire. Jaewhan Park shot the stills but Mandela shot the video. The video is an awesome amalgamation of short videos and photo shots showing New York city and vibrance of Osekre and his crew. There is a shot of the Fela musical which shows Osekre is inspired by the African legend's music and appreciates the efforts to bring Fela's music to a much wider audience. Osekresings "We are going, on our way to someday" with some Twi lyrics - "?b?y? yie" which means 'it shall be well'. He worked with the late Kiki Gyan of Osibisa and dedicates his music to him. - Museke

"The Next Osibisa"

Osekre is taking his poetry skills into the music scene and is bent on breathing new styles into the game. Armed with excellent writing skills, sick rhymes, word flow and a guitar hooked with the harmonica, Osekre's Vibe is an experience.

Osekres sound is described as African acoustic pop with mild rock, poetry and rhymes.

"Whether in small bursts, or in longer rhythmic riffs, Osekre’s verses somehow manage to enthrall. I think it’s the onrush of crashing contrasts, relieved in time to leave you with (mostly) soothing conclusions. As hinted, he shows and shares pain but also forgiveness."

Osekre worked with the late Kiki Gyan of Osibisa, one of the few bands which dominated the World Music scene in the 70's. His influences include Fela, Lauryn Hill, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, and Ben Harper.

Bio

Osekre worked with the late Kiki Gyan of Osibisa, one of the few African bands which dominated the global music scene in the 70's. His influences include Fela, Lauryn Hill, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, and Ben Harper

Armed with excellent writing skills, sick rhymes, word flow and a guitar hooked with the harmonica, Osekre's Vibe is an experience. Crowds come to party at his gigs where Osekre plays with his 5 piece band with the occasional extra horns and percussion.

The band is even more exciting to hear because of the diversity of its sound and the musical backgrounds of its members ranging from Ghana, Chicago, New Jersey, Virginia and Nigeria. Each member contributes uniquely to the bands feel while Osekre conducts the band's sound into climax.

The band has performed at the 92Y tribeca, the Dumbo Arts Festival, The Nuyorican Cafe, The Shrine, Cultural shows at Columbia University, MIT, at Wesleyan University and is making inroads in the northwest.

The Current EP, “No turning back from Here” features the excellent Derrick Ashong from the band, Soulfege, on the “Verses for the Masses” track.
