"Premiere: Other Humans ‘In Future’"

PRAISED for their ingenuity and the refreshing perspective that they’ve brought to the sphere of pop leaning alternative rock, Other Humans have everything going in their favour at present. Unafraid to inject a sense of ambitiousness and stadium rock scale ideology into their music, this year has saw this brazenly unique outfit win over fans at every interval; including a mind-expanding performance on the T Break Stage. Set to grace our very own Tenement Trail this coming weekend, the band have teased what is sure to be yet another earth shattering outing with the celestial ‘In Future.’ Laden with cold and stark synths that hark back to 80’s outfits such as Soft Cell and Gary Numan at their most potent, ‘In Future’ notably deviates from the more frenetic style of tracks such as ‘Valley’ and turns its focus to more brooding atmospherics. With a sense of menace in its instrumentation that wouldn’t sound out of place on the soundtrack of a Nicolas Winding Refn film, Other Humans manage to marry their poppier sensibilities with a sense of bleakness and have subsequently created something which not requests but demands your full attention.

"LIVE: OTHER HUMANS @ BROADCAST, GLASGOW, 16/05/15"

PLAYING their first ever gig, Other Humans served up an energetic, colourful and hypnotic set in front of a packed Broadcast basement last Saturday night.

Formed out of the ashes of Cumbernauld indie four-piece Bright Young Nights, Darren Martin fronts the synth-pop quartet.

A hundred or so people crammed into the the dark and dingy venue as Morgan Woods of Something, Someone opened equipped with simply an acoustic guitar, base drum and a glockenspiel, delivering a short, magical set.

Crowd rushes forward, lights go down, Other Humans take to the stage for what is, unbelievably, their first gig. I say unbelievably as the furore around the band’s entrance was like an unstoppable wave of enthusiasm.

Martin takes up his position in front of his trusty keys and microphone to create their distinctive ’80s synth pop sound.

Energising the crowd early on Other Humans are frenetic and frantic in their stage movements, with perhaps not getting across their best music and sounds. Playing tracks such as ‘Flashing Youth’, ‘I Give Up’ and the self-titled tune ‘Other Humans’ they started to ease into their maiden performance slowly, showing their already strong chemistry and tight instrumentation.

The highlight of the set though, came at the end as their hit track ‘Valley’, which recently featured on Jim Gellatly’s show on Amazing Radio, really impressed. The track also received Twitter love from members of Glasgow hip-hop act Hector Bizerk. Louie from Hector Bizerk was actually at the gig and gave me his opinion of ‘Valley’ calling it “a top tune”.

I couldn’t agree more, starting off muted and teasing, it bursts into life with racing synth and “woah-woahs” from Martin. That deep voice comes in again, with chugging bass and licks of guitar as the vocal effects add texture to the track.

Overall the gig was a great success for Other Humans. They showcased what they’re all about to an enthused audience and kick started the beginning of their live chemistry. With the support of others in the industry and undeniable talent, more gigging and more music making can only be a good thing for Glasgow’s best fledgling synth act. - The Music Brewery

Bio

Formed in 2015, Other Humans are a synth pop outfit that create an anthemic, 80s-inspired sound. Darren Martin, Brandon Cassidy, Mark Macdonald and Conroy Hunter have experienced a massive buzz and been met with continued industry praise in their first few months together.

Other Humans debuted their incredibly charismatic live show to a sold out audience in Broadcast in Glasgow. The band played the legendary T-Break stage on its 20th Anniversary at this Summer's T in the Park; delivering one of T-Break's stand-out sets. Most recently, the band secured a place on this year's Tenement Trail line-up and reminded Glasgow exactly why there is so much excitement surrounding them right now.

Responsible for securing Other Humans slot at T in the Park, debut track ‘Valley’ has proven to set the bar for what has yet to come from the band. Having already featured on Vic Galloway’s show on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC’s ‘Scotland Introducing’ podcast, the track has generated an air of excitement and anticipation around the band.
