Bio
Made up of an Irish, three Scousers and a Sri Lankan, Our Neck of the Woods combines different cultures and inspirations into an unique sounding, street percussion band. Our Neck of the Woods brings upbeat music and life to the streets of Liverpool city centre, taking street music to a whole new level. Taking inspirations from dancehall, jazz, rumba, samba and drum ‘n’ bass, Our Neck of the Woods encompasses an innovative form of modern percussion sounds.
Meeting in university in Liverpool, at the heart of British culture, Our Neck of the Woods have thrived in the town centre, playing on the high street at least twice a week. With their motto as “connection through music,” they encourage every type of person walking by to join in with their ensemble. Handing out bongo drums, maracas, tambourines and many other sorts of percussion instruments, they take people out of the mundane reality of every day life and involve them in Liverpool’s flourishing music culture. Our Neck of the Woods consider themselves as “free therapy,” drawing on inspirations from all over the world in which use percussion for therapeutic values.
Being active members of Liverpool’s music scene, the members also work with and organise regular events around Liverpool.
Having had an amazing response, they developed a reputation for themselves with Liverpool locals and students, they have extended their performing environment around Liverpool and other Northern cities such as Sheffield. In the near future they plan on stretching out even further to creative arts and music festivals as well as bringing their unique sound to streets all over the world.
