"Wrap Yourself in the Overcoats Against the Fog"

However they describe it - 'folk-electro-soul' or 'soultronica' - the fact is that New York duo Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell, as Overcoats, have proved in recent months that they have turned their musical hands to crafting an enchanting and invitingly confessional musical sensibility that adroitly employs dreamily emotive harmonies and seductively minimalist soundscapes to cast a charming aural spell over listeners. Bewitching us from the outset with their wonderful debut, 'Little Memory', they are now in the process of taking their music to the people, with recent performances alongside Nick Hakim and on stage at Spring Fling, and here they return with the percussive hand claps, poignant guitar and reflectively weighed harmonies of 'The Fog''s preservation of identity against the oppressive pall of suffocating expectations. - Next2Shine

"Track of the Day: Overcoats "Walk On""

Tuesday has effed us right in the A already. It is as if yet another Bank Holiday didn’t take place yesterday. It seems more like peeps have just been using that day to gather their collective dark forces with the intention of making today as against-the-ropes as they possibly can. Still, we’re taking it in our stride and that is no mean feat considering our shoulder and/or chest region is currently destroyed due to the spicy strong-man poses we’ve been pulling as of late. Triceps are interesting aren’t they? We honestly didn’t realise we had them until we woke up with them in agony this morning. We guess this is good news. We also just got publicly laughed at in the office owing to the excessively green-looking lunch we just prepared for ourselves. We can’t imagine why; it was haddock and some kinda beans, and it was bloody delish. True enough, we may have been regarded as the Burger King guy in recent times – or rather, the only time that people have bothered to notice our meandering diet is when we produce a greasy brown paper bag full of cool stuff, and let us tell you the mud fucking sticks there – so we’re really quite amazed at the lack of encouragement from our peoples. Just another challenge, yo. Soundtracking this culinary transition is New York duo Overcoats, who in respect of both nomenclature and sonic appeal are mad-ripe for this rather overcast and super-windy London afternoon. In terms of vocals, these two have got something that is in equal parts powerful and tranquil, and might give the camps of Smoke Fairies, The Staves, The Casket Girls and Jack & Eliza quite a bit to think about. New effort Walk On follows preceeding debut online offering Little Memory and matches it almost perfectly in terms of its think-about-life composition and in our mind, if “worked” the “right” way, might have the appropriate appeal to certain BBC 6music remits. We’re also going to chuck in Home-era Dan Croll and previous Track Of The Day favourite Maybug into the undertone mix; although we suppose more straightforward comparisons might be found in Lykke Li or perhaps Laura Marling. Not that comparisons are terribly important. It is both cool and incisive without coming across as pretentious; if more of the music industry was like this song we might not have so much to bitch about. Get familiar. - Killing Moon
