"Oxygen Releases New Song on Saw IV Soundtrack"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local Band, Oxygen, Writes Song for
Soundtrack for Feature Film “Saw IV”

Omaha, NE – October 9, 2007 –

Local music favorite, Oxygen, has been selected for inclusion on the original motion picture soundtrack, “Saw IV,” which is scheduled for international release on October 23, 2007.
Oxygen’s contribution to the soundtrack is entitled “Do You Want To Play A Game.” A title adapted from the infamous one liner popularized by the original movie’s villain, Jigsaw. Members of Oxygen wrote “Do You Want To Play A Game” over a period of about two weeks in their hometown of Omaha, NE. “When we were asked to write this song, we knew it was going to be one of the greatest challenges we have ever faced as a band,” said Brent Cerny, lead vocalist for the band. “Now that we have accomplished this goal we are stronger as a band and confident in our ability to produce a quality product for any project.”
Music producer Jonathan McHugh tapped Oxygen to write the song for the film.
“Do You Want To Play A Game” is a deviation from the pop/adult contemporary music for which Oxygen is known. So much so that the band was initially hesitant to seize the opportunity for fear of people thinking that is the only type of music they play.
“We love rocking out and this song was fun for us to make, but what this song taught us is that we are very versatile as a band and that we are ready to write and perform a song for any occasion,” said drummer Jason Mateljan. Guitarist Bryan Scherbring added, “Our fans will hear this song and know that it is still Oxygen and we hope they will be excited to hear a somewhat different, but still familiar sound.”
SAW IV, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and produced and distributed by Twisted Pictures and Lions Gate Films will open nationwide on October 26, 2007. Oxygen will
debut “Do You Want To Play A Game” live on Oct 26th at the Waiting Room (65th & Maple, Omaha, NE), to coincide with the release of the film.
About Oxygen
Omaha-based Oxygen is a local and regional favorite on the music scene, catering to both the adult contemporary and power pop-rock markets. Oxygen’s unique musical style has laid the path for them to open for regional favorites such as The Samples, and, most recently, on the national stage, for rock legends, Bon Jovi. The band’s debut CD entitled “Volume 1,” has more than 90,000 copies pressed and released to date.
Oxygen’s songwriting combined with intricate lyrical and musical arrangements have also drawn critical acclaim, as the band has been credited with several songwriting awards in national publications media such as American Songwriter Magazine, International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA), and VH1 Song of the Year Reviewer’s Choice (2005).
Oxygen is currently in the studio working on their sophomore CD and road testing new material in their home market of Omaha, while continuing to work with motion picture, television, and music producers. Having recently been tapped for the American Pie 6 soundtrack spot, stay tuned to see where the future will take the phenomenon known as Oxygen.

"Oxygen Accepted to Cincinnati's Midpoint Music Festival"

Oxygen was honored to be accepted to Cincinnati's Mid Point Music Festival. They were able to record three tracks with a Sonic Bids producer while attending several seminars and receiving rave reviews. Oxygen finished the festival by gigging at the new and beautiful Buddakhan in downtown Cincinnati. The band and the crowd were amped and the show went off without a hitch. The band can't wait to get back to Cincinnati. - Oxygen

"Oxygen Signs Record Deal w/ Cowbell Digital Music"

Backbeat * One of the guys from the acoustic rock band Oxygen cut my hair several years ago. It was a great haircut and now it seems his other talents are taking off as the band, four Omaha natives, has signed a record deal with Cowbell Digital Music of Queensland, Australia. The band is expected to head down under for a tour at some point but is currently tracking its new album.

“With the new album, we’re trying to find a great hook in every tune, we really pay attention to current trends in radio and also what gets our fans going when we’re testing new material in the live shows,” said lead guitarist, Kevin Carlson.

Cowbell isn’t just a funny name for a label, it’s also a pretty progressive outfit. Its artists retain total copyright ownership of their work, fans can choose from various downloadable formats (they can also purchase just a single song or a full album) and the label even supports peer-to-peer file sharing “encouraging bands to earn recognition from a grassroots community of digital music aficionados,” according to an Oxygen press release.

"Omaha Entertainment Awards Nominee"

Oxygen was nominated as one of 5 artists in the Adult Contemporary category for the 1st Annual Omaha Entertainment Awards(OEA).

The awards ceremony took place on January 4th, 2007 at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha. A panel of 32 local music industry professionals assembled to vote for their top choice for each of the many categories of the live music segment of the OEA.

Again in 2008, Oxygen was nominated for Omaha's 'Artist of the Year,' 'Best Rock Band,' and 'Best Adult Contemporary Band.' - Omaha Entertainment Awards

"Breath of Fresh Air"

"At the request of major label Atlantic Records, Omaha-based acoustic-rock quartet Oxygen will film its concert tonight for a video that the band will send to label reps. With influences of the Counting Crows and Dave Matthews Band, Oxygen has developed a local and regional following for its three-part harmonies." - Omaha World Herald

"Searching for Success"

"...The music on I Can Finally Breathe hits its apex on the last two songs, 'Temptation' and 'Starfish Girl.' The latter features Cerny's crisp vocals in sweeping harmonies across the song's hook, along with some impressive acoustic guitar acrobatics. Set somewhere between the acoustic rock stomp of Jars of Clay and the wandering melodies of the Counting Crows, Oxygen's sound may be cast from 90s rock, but it is filled with solid songwriting." - The Reader - Omaha

Bio

From the music scene that produced such artists as 311, Connor Oberst, The Faint and Cursive, a breath of fresh air has emerged from Omaha, NE. Oxygen, a group of 5 musicians with a common vision, has built a rock-solid fan base throughout the Midwest with their own signature brand of “Acoustic Rock”. The band brings a straight forward blend of mainstream rock structures mixed with tropical themed lyrics that have been known to loosen a grown man's tie on a Monday afternoon.

"Oxygen is one of the best unsigned bands out in the Mid-west today. They have great melodic songs with hooks that just don’t quit. I think they have a lot of potential and It won’t be long before they come up with the song that breaks them through to the mainstream." -- Jon McHugh, Sr. VP Soundtracks & Supervision at Universal Music Group

Oxygen is currently in the process of recording tracks for the release of their much anticipated follow-up to “Life Like Water”, due in early 2011. They continue to captivate audiences with their high-energy live shows and maintain an expanding fan base as diverse as their musical style. Having played with with such an eclectic mix of great artists as Bon Jovi, Gavin DeGraw, Lifehouse, Kris Allen, The Samples, and Candlebox are just a few artists they have shared the stage with, and is a testament to their ability to span several musical genres and demographics.

There’s no better proof of Oxygen’s musical diversity than their 2007 release, Do You Want To Play A Game, from the SAW IV Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Co-written with Jonathan McHugh, the song quickly became one of the biggest songs on the soundtrack and has become a fan favorite at live shows with people singing along with every word.

Through it all, one thing has become undeniably certain; Oxygen's popularity continues to grow at a remarkable rate. With their debut CD nearing 100,000 in sales and fans clamoring for more, it’s clear a bright future lies ahead for Oxygen.
