OYE brings forth the flavor Miles, Hendrix, Lavox, and Marley would use to season their daily moods. Blending heavy hitting kicks and snares, sizzling bass lines, and soul filled melodic samples with clever punch lines, powerful lyrics, and venomous flows, OYE is a brand of hiphop that’s as much innovative as it is reminiscent of timeless classics. The group’s seamless but powerful beat lacing hints at the Wu’s edgy flavor, Gangstarr’s conscious grittiness, and the native tongues ingenious flows.

OYE along with family member and producer OneTake, collaborated to put out ‘The Movement’, a compilation constructed to display the aesthetic versatility of their craft. An intense collage of styles, flows, and beat design, ‘The Movement’ is sure to have something for all true hiphop listeners, as well as for all those who appreciate good music. The duo is made up of Ephnik and Orion, two emcees committed to “making artistic value, and economic freedom synonymous”, as Ephnik puts it. In the summer of 2004, Ephnik who’s originally from Colombia, had recently arrived to Miami from NYC, and hijacked an emcee battle at the “B-Side Vinyl” record store in Hialeah. The following week at the same store Orion and Ephnik met during an open mic cipher. Mutually impressed by each other’s styles, the two decided to unite forces in the endless battle against commercial rap. Along that Journey they met producer/emcee OneTake who had also recently arrived to Miami from Brooklyn. The chemistry was instant. OneTake complemented the beats provided by Wessbert (Paris, France), who was Ephnik’s Producer at the time, and created a more complete sound ranging from melodic compositions to the traditional Boom Bop sound. They released and distributed 1500 copies of the EP ‘Protecting Dead Presidents’ under their former name “Sekret Service”. OYE also licensed a song for the ‘Organic HipHop Compilation’ put together by “Afrika BabyBam” of the Jungle Brothers, were featured in the “Free Album” by “Efon” in West Palm Beach, and had songs in several underground mixtapes throughout the nation.

OYE has started this year with fire works. Along with THE MOVEMENT, OYE executed a small tour of the Northeast this past February, being acclaimed by crowds in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Conneticut, Long Island, and closing with a show at the legendary Nuyorican Poets Café, where they performed for the true listeners. In January Ephnik represented in Venezuela during the World Social Forum, where he blessed audiences of over 5000 with cuts from his upcoming album ‘La Cocina’, as well as some OYE originals. Three Concerts, two national radio shows, and lots of new friends later, Ephnik looks forward to touring South America in the coming months, dates TBA.

The duo along with OneTake and the Family strive to be recognized for skills, intelligent content, and original concepts. In the groups own words, “We don’t make music to be famous, we put our heart on the line to make classics.” Everybody that truly listens would agree with that statement.

THE MOVEMENT is an early attempt at timeless hiphop so look it up, listen, and be converted. OYE remains lurking inside their “Assembly Line” headquarters always plotting on a new way to alter audiences’ perceptions on their upcoming live shows.
