"Montreal Hour Vol: No (11:07) February 20 to 26, 2003"

Pacer Maximum Security/Face Down [demo single](SineMusic)
I'm not the greatest fan of modern alt. rock bands, drawing heavily, as so many do, from the legacy of bands like Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and, Lord above, the great white evil, Pearl Jam. They tend to go one of two ways: Nickelback/Creed/Default on the more commercial side, pop nu metal (turn on MTV and pick randomly) on the other. That said, credit where credit is due: Montreal's Pacer, together on the low-key since '97, are starting to sound like a very finely tuned rock machine. And while I'm guessing most of their influences wouldn't turn many of my cranks (save for that thing I keep hearing that recalls Metallica), they are very, very close to coalescing into something real. The writing is loose and free-flowing, the playing solid, sidestepping most of the clich├ęs in this genre, and the delivery clear and lacking affectation, three things that'll hold them in good stead when radio comes a-knockin'. You keep an ear open, and I'll keep you posted.
