P.A. DUTCH PERSONAL BIO

If you haven't heard the music of P.A. Dutch, get ready. You are in for a treat. Few songwriters display this kind of range, whether in style, subject or genre. The gritty, distinctive delivery of P.A. Dutch will capture your heart and your attention.

"Unlike a lot of my contemporaries who have played music since they were children, it gripped me instead like some kind of religion in my late twenties, and all the energy that I had previously spent on other interests has become completely focused onto this one singular thing; the study of writing and the writing of songs."

The songs of P.A. Dutch have a unique ability to be old and new simultaneously.

“I feel strongly that being a good songwriter is not about starting when you are young and learning to write songs, it’s about being a student of life and learning how to translate very subtle feelings onto a piece of paper, having the courage to try it and the tenacity to keep at it until you have some control. One song doesn’t make you a writer, nor does one album. I have often thought that if I can just get the whole way around reality, then I can stop writing. If I can treat every idea that humans encounter, then I will have completed some insane mission.”

If the music of P.A. Dutch begins in the country rock genre (TWO DAYS), then it comfortably runs rampant into blues (MEMPHIS), indie-rock (IMPRACTICAL BELL), punk (RED LETTER GIRL), rockabilly (TREES CATCH FIRE), folk (ROSES), pop (SOMEBODY'S CRADLE), alternative country (MY HEART SPEAKS) and Americana (BONA DEA).

“I’m amazed each and every time at how during the writing process the song was the size of a stadium with all the characters and the whole plot and the entire earth within its bounds, but at the end, when the regular world is once again the object of your focus, it’s hard to even remember how big the song was. It achieves this very personal type of rightness where it almost disappears into being simple again.”

The whole package is deceptively simple.
