Paiges Wood's Greatest Hits

Texas is known for producing beautiful blondes, and this issue’s Lust girl, Paige Wood, more than upholds that tradition. An aspiring singer born and raised in Argyle, Texas, Wood currently pursues her music career in New York City. If every singer looked this good, the music industry wouldn’t be in so much trouble—we could watch her perform anytime.

"Vans Warped Tour expands the tent beyond punk"

Paige Wood: This North Texas-bred chanteuse is making her name in New York now with plucky numbers that recall Liz Phair merged with a folksy Patti Smith.

"Chicks Rule Warped Tour"

Paige Wood: Brigitte Bardot by way of Joan Jett, this glossy blonde crooner knows when edge is more satisfying than polish. The breathy insinuating purr and eccentric jazzy orchestration of “Repetition will leave you hungry to experience it all over again. - Out.com

"The women of Warped Tour"

Paige Wood:
A blonde with a purr, the New York-based musician is definitely worth skipping the no-names on tour. You may not know her yet, but Paige's songs are like Uh Huh Her hiring on Liz Phair circa 1995. She demands attention.

"The Warped Tour girl Katy Perry would kiss ...."

which girl on the Vans Warped Tour -- going on today at Save Mart Center, y'all -- she would kiss. Her answer? Paige Wood.

Of course, I immediately Googled Wood -- that'swhatshesaid! -- to see what she was all about. I liked what I heard on her MySpace, especially "Carmelite" and "Stereo."

It's very un-Warped Tour. She's a singer/songwriter with a retro vibe and a bit of a sultry jazzy touch. And I guess I could see why Katy would kiss her. I'll try to check her out in person today.

Other Warped acts getting a nod from Perry -- not for kissability, just for putting on a good show -- included Automatic Loveletter, We The Kings, Oreskaband, 3OH!3 and Cobra Starship.

"Williamsburg Fashion Weekend"

Paige Wood's polished soul-rock formed the soundtrack for a more traditional fashion-performance. As the band played, hot-girl-next-door type models strutted around in Mandate of Heaven, Carissa Ackerman's line of vintage-yet-modern clothing made mostly from recycled vintage fabrics. Unlike at a "real" fashion show, the models appeared to be having fun, and at the end they all started dancing, which prompted members of the audience to do the same.

The night didn't feel at all like a fashion show. It was more like a love-fest of creativity. I know it’s a bit clichéd, but I really did feel like something exciting was happening. Where else but in Williamsburg could someone put together couture, performance art and rock music? When I remarked upon the eclectic nature of the event, organizer and designer Arthur Arbit confirmed that there is no single style that defines Williamsburg fashion, rather, "it's about the fact that the people who live here are free enough … brave enough … to wear what they want." Say what you will about hipster fashion victims, but in that moment, I agreed with him wholeheartedly.
