Like many others at this year’s festival, the [Kalan]Porter fans I talked to were wowed by Painting Daisies, the Alberta farm girls with electric guitars that rocked main stage last night.
The girls must have been the hardest working artists of the weekend. They participated in several day time sessions both days, played the after hours concert on Friday and are feature in the festival wrap up concert at the Black Sheep.
“We’re the alternative part of the folk section”, declared singer/guitarist Rachelle van Zanten during the band’s smokin’ set under the blue striped main stage tent.

If proof is still required that a band consisting of four women is no more of a novelty than an all-guy band, look no further than Painting Daisies. Their latest release "Phonography" is yet another rockin' step in their musical evolution. The album is an infectious collection of road- tested songs that show the depth
and strength of this great indie band. Roots/Pop power propelled by slide guitar and great songs. Having recently won the prized Entertainers of the Year award, or "Wheatie", for which they were in competition with the likes of Jann Arden, Wide Mouth Mason, and Nickelback, Edmonton quartet Painting Daisies are on the rise and show no signs of stopping!
