Bio

Palace Ballet consider themselves champions of a genre they like to call “New Old Shit” which is to say, without sounding redundantly retro, Palace Ballet write traditional, catchy pop songs. Tired of a music industry where success hinges on how well you pout, pucker up and kiss the appropriate ass, they subscribe to the old-fashioned idea a good tune lies at the heart of any intention. While PB enjoy the classic influence of Talking Heads, George Harrison, The Band and Buddy Holly, they have been compared to the modern sounds of Arctic Monkeys (Steve Lamacq), The Strokes (Jim Gellatly) and Devendra Banhart (The Scotsman). The band’s recorded output to date has been well-received, with air-play on Radio One, BBC Introducing and XFM as well as being featured in The Mill’s cinema ad campaign over the summer. Whilst poised to record a debut EP, Palace Ballet are perhaps best enjoyed live. PB gigs are about good times with timeless pop delivered like a flurry of well-thrown punches, and dancing ‘til your socks are holey. Currently venturing out of their Glasgow comfort-zone for shows further afield, they shouldn’t be missed, because while they generally don’t “make ‘em like they used to”...PALACE BALLET do!
