"Live Review"

Palatial Digs (formerly the Wilderness) followed; another young WA band that has been paying its dues around the WA music scene for sometime. From them we had country, funk and nostalgic old school rock and roll all rolled into one well-rehearsed package. The the use of saxophone as a lead instrument is intriguing. The sax has always been a sleazy instrument, and it worked well combined with the boot scooting rock of Palatial Digs. They ended their set with an ode to the homeless. - Fasterlouder

"P Digs Live"

“Palatial Digs really know how to work a crowd. Songs like Nothin’ On Me’ and ‘Tumour’ were just built to dance to. If you haven’t seen Palatial Digs’ mix of rock, blues and funk, then get down to one of their shows – Fast.” - Spaceship News

"Palatial Digs EP Review"

Listening to Palatial Digs is like shoving a huge handful of different flavoured Skittles into your mouth: sometimes it’s sweet, sometimes face-smashingly sour, and sometimes just plain strange – in a good way.

Having a saxophone as a lead instrument is certainly odd, particularly when paired with the traditional rock band set up. But somehow it works; adding an unexpectedly dirty, resonating tone to what would otherwise be just another alt-rock band. Palatial’s repertoire is thoroughly diverse, ranging from hard, rough tunes like first single Tumour, to the cheeky ska-based Dream Long.

The raunchy bluesy guitar solo and accompanying sax in Dream Long complement each other flawlessly and the subject matter – a dream about a threesome – slots in perfectly with the tone. The chorus and infectious riff of City Of Night initially make it the most ‘mainstream’ tune on the EP, but the peculiar tribal percussion breakdown right in the middle proves that Palatial Digs are no ordinary band.

First impressions of this EP are positive, but it does seem that with the group’s particular sound and heavy use of sax, their tunes may be best served up live. Palatial Digs are professionals who have honed their talent to dish up a unique and funky EP, and have the potential to go far.

"Palatial Digs EP"

"There's a quirky variety of influences evident across the debut release from this local quartet, yet all the elements gel seamlessly as the groups songwriting abilities shine through. Tumour and Nothing on Me have a great party vibe and an unlikely blend of blues, funk and good times rock n roll and thankfully the saxophone sits perfectly in the mix, bringing the songs to climactic points and accenting in just the right places. Save Youself shows of the bands heavier side with some nice soloing through the alt-rocker that takes a curious and playful turn towards the end of the EP" – Drum Media

“Most impressive is this band's commitment to their measured show, never under or overdone; they cooked up their rock blues just right." Xpress Mag

Since 2010 (when old and new band members emulsified into their current line up) they supported blues powerhouse Dallas Frasca, played at the Blues at Bridgetown Festival, represented WA in the national Guiness Live grand final and won the WAM Blues and Roots Song of the Year 2010 with their song Hoborockabilly.

“This'd go down pretty well live! A low down hillbilly stomper.” Steph Hughes – Triple J

A Palatial Digs live show really does goes off, whipping crowds into a frenzied mix of dancing, moshing and bootscooting. Their eclectic brand of dirty rock n roll is free and unrestricted. From a power trio pumping out gritty hard rock to a 6 piece with horns dishing out some funk n chips, you never know what you might get, but there is always something for everybody’s taste and Palatial Digs serve it up with passion and intensity.
