"OJ's Corral Tape & CD Reviews"

The second release from the trio Palo Duro came out just before Christmas. It's title "Cowpokes, Horses and Old Glory" and it is produced by Andy Wilkinson. It's a project they are justifyed in taking pride in as the 15 songs and poems are excellent choices and nicely delivered. Jim Anderson (guitar) recites a couple of poems and sings harmony, Cody Anderson (bass) sings lead and Teresa Zimmerman (fiddle) also sings harmony, so they have a nice acoustic sound. Detailed notes about each entry makes the album even more interesting, and there's a nice balance between standards and newer material, in cluding one instrumental. My Favorites are Jim Andersons composition "Out on the Llano Estacado", Johnny Kendrick's "Echos of the trail, and Don Cadden's "Earnest Galvan". Bio

Palo Duro is Spanish for “Hard Wood” and is the name of the second largest canyon in the United States. That beautiful canyon is the location of the Elkins Ranch, where this trio has been performing since 1999. The fact that both Jim and Cody Anderson were born and raised on a large scale farming and ranching operation in Lamesa Texas and Alamosa Colorado that was eventually lost to inheritance tax heavily influences their music. When not performing at the Elkins, They are headlining at gatherings and Western events all over the Southwest, including Texas, NM, AZ, OK, KS, and CO, and were recently chosen by Michael Martin Murphy to open his shows in the Texas Panhandle region. Honored to be part of the first "Sellout" at the newly opened Amarillo Globe News Performance center when featured with other performers such as Red Stegall, Baxter Black, Don Edwards and Michael Martin Murphy. We have been featured in articles in “Southern Living”, “Accent West”, “Focus”, and “Saddle Barron” as well as drawing recognition from area news papers.

Some of our greatest honors have been to receive West Quest’s Historian Award for promotion and preservation of Western Heritage for the CD “Comanche Moon”. We also received a Spirit Arrow from one of Quanah Parker’s Grandsons for the same album. Jim Anderson's poem "Imprints" was in "The Big Roundup" which won the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artist. A huge honor was to receive a letter from President and Laura Bush for the song “Finish the Job”. The song also reached number one on the indie radio charts as published by "Power Source Magazine" out of Nashville, TN. We contiue to be flatered and humbled by being nominated WMA (Western Music Association) Group of the year 2005 and the AWA (Academy of Western Artist) Album of the year by our piers.
