MUSICAL STYLE

The music is acoustic and electronic fusion with a hint of eastern instrumentation and other world music influences. I am enjoying trying to see if the potentially opposing forces of technology and acoustic integrity can tell the same stories to represent the intensity of mercy breaking through the ceiling of chaos.

There is a gentle edge (acoustic guitar, harp, Japanese wind, etc...) but these sounds sometimes walk with dirty bass and industrial thuds. Sometimes the songs have a hint of another culture … or a few different cultures in one song.

TOURS, ALBUMS & THE MUSICIANS

After touring as the support act for Middle Eastern influenced folk band, Sons of Korah, I toured my debut album, hannah’s child, with a band dedicated to raise money for the inspirational work my sister was doing in Cambodia with victims of human trafficking.

Whilst successful in terms of helping establish what is now known as “Bloom Asia", musically, I finished the tour knowing that I wanted to come back to Melbourne and record another album, this time with more experimental rhythms and sounds.

This album is titled l’aparela and is almost finished.  Please join the mailing list (www.pamelajoy.net) if you would like to be notified when singles become available.

Adding to the cast of talented musicians from hannah’s child Anne Norman, Jayden Lee, Greg Hunt, Jacob Rissmann, Travis Easton, Mike Avery, Gareth Skinner, Rod Gear, I’ve been fortunate to work this time with Robert Sedky, Jeremy Alsop and Baker Street Studios for creative electronic elements with Allan Nuendorf once again provided his elegant touch on the recording of acoustic instruments and the production as a whole.  I am also fortunate to have Robert Sedky's beautiful guitar on various songs and the input of Stu Hazelman (The Skylines) on the track “Creature” (guitar and bv), to be released with the full length l’aparela album.

During the recording of l’aparela, I have also been remixing hannah’s child with a touch of the new flavour. This digital, remixed version of hannah’s child remains heavily acoustic, but it will just give you a taste of what’s to come in l’aparela.

BACKGROUND & WHY I CREATE

I grew up in Queensland, Australia, and wrote most of my early music on riverbanks and under the trees without the influence even of a radio.

Now I live in Melbourne and enjoy fusing the expertise of the amazing artists you can find in this city with the rough but intense ideas that follow me from the country into the city…

I create music to share stories of mercy and faith in chaos because my experience on this planet seems so confusing and disparate.  It's so good and difficult at the same time and it seems as if it's been like this throughout history.  When I ask why, what's it all for and why do I have cravings for a better place without frustration and tears across the globe, my response to these questions usually end up in a song.
