"Panama Gold @ the Sunset"

Do you like the The Rolling Stones? Television? The Strokes? Panama Gold, who play an amalgamation of those bands styles, will be rocking The Sunset Tavern tonight along with Scraps and Watch it Sparkle. While you’re there, be sure to pick up Panama Gold’s 10 song Self-Titled EP, released just over a month ago. These guys have a true to the 70’s garage-rock aesthetic without losing their luster. “We want your grandma to like us,” says lead vocalist Damien Goyenechea, and she damn well might. But, there’s nothing at all rusty or blue-haired about what Panama Gold are doing.

Check out an earlier Panama Gold profile and a free mp3 from friendly neighborhood SSG Janelle Thomas right here, and enjoy a hilarious, unauthorized video for the song “Cougars in the Cave.” - Seattle Show Gal

"New Artist Alert - Panama Gold"

It’s nearly a new year, and it’s time for some new music! I, Janelle Thomas of Seattle Show Gal, unintentionally happened upon Panama Gold at the Ballard Art Church Final Party a couple weekends ago. Amidst what was thought to be a mixture of DIY fledgling bands, the maturity and cohesive sound of Panama Gold was unexpected and exciting.

Although Panama Gold has only been together since May, lead vocalist and guitarist Damien Goyenechea has been involved in numerous projects under Seattle’s Mad Cap Records. Damien met Derick Lester-drums, Jere Archer-bass, and Brad Wright-guitar, all on craigslist, and Panama Gold was born.

“Cougars in the Cave” showcases Panama Gold’s developed lyrics and melodies. The perfect placement of American Beauty soundbites and the growling rrowwrrs, Cougars in the Cave is an excellent introduction to this sure to be gem of a band.

Check out “Cougars in the Cave” and make sure you pick up Panama Gold’s self-titled EP available now through Mad Cap Records and upcoming shows. Speaking of, P. Gold’s next show will be Feburary 19th at The Sunset Tavern. Don’t miss out on your chance at bragging rights for seeing Panama Gold “before they got big!” - Seattle Show Gal

Here’s their bio:

Panama Gold is a rock n’ roll quartet based in Seattle, WA*. Their collective sound celebrates the highs and lows of 60’s garage rock and late 70’s post-punk with the vocal delivery and soul of early Rolling Stones, Doors and Stax recordings. “We fancy ourselves as being a band that goes outside the constraints of formulaic songwriting; but at the same time, we want your grandma to like us, so we adhere to certain pop song structures,” states lead vocalist Damien Goyenechea. Panama Gold’s high energy sentiment, songwriting and stage show are equally rooted in the moment. And what a moment it’s been: In less than a year, Panama Gold went from an idea of songwriter Goyenechea, to forming their own label Madcap Records, releasing several singles, an eponymously named EP and playing dozens of well-received shows at Northwest venues such as The Sunset Tavern, High Dive, Slims, and Hell’s Kitchen. Panama Gold has begun to cement their notoriety around the Seattle music scene; if the past is any indication, the months to follow will be equally fleeting. An LP is slated for release in June 2010 preceding a West Coast tour.

Bio

Panama Gold is rock n' roll quartet from Seattle, WA. Since forming in April 2009, they have written and recorded over 30 songs and released 2 demos, and more recently, their self-titled EP. They've played high energy performances at The Sunset Tavern, The High Dive, Slims, and Hell's Kitchen and have begun to cement their notoriety around the Seattle music scene. Drawing from an array of musical influences, the band has created their own brand of rock n' roll, which is equal parts high energy, quality songwriting and expirementation. "We fancy ourselves as being a band that goes outside the constraints of formulaic songwriting; but at the same time, we want your Grandma to like us, so we adhere to certain pop structures," states lead vocalist Damien Goyenechea. Panama Gold's fans are quick to analyze their music and attempt to pinpoint their sound: Most recognize the classic rock influence from The Doors, Ramones and the Rolling Stones; others are immediately struck by the progressive elements of their music which harness properties of indie rock experimentation. Panama Gold refer to their music as "beat music" above all else. They want you to move, feel, sweat, bleed, kiss and embrace.
