Biography

Founded above a rundown Northeast Minneapolis warehouse, Panel of Experts play with a gritty urgency shown in songs like “Double Crossed”, and “Broke Again”. Mixing it up with classic punk rock, Stax soul, Jamaican rocksteady, and New Orleans grind you’ll get an idea of what’s behind the rock cocktail (rocktail ?!) that is Panel of Experts.

A crew of volunteers/degenerates gathered together to shake out something in between all their record collections; what stuck is Po'X. Adam joined up to become master beater. Johnny brings a Tuff Gong bass. And finishing off the Po'X sound are Eric on trombone and Gus on tenor sax, two rocksteady gents who are also known in the Twin Cities for playing in 3 Minute Hero, the Jack Brass Band, and the Secondhand Ska Kings.

In 2006-07, Po'X kicked off a Midwest tour in support of "The American Dream" EP and a coinciding national radio campaign that achieved airplay at over 180 triple A and college stations. Thanks in part to Tinderbox Music, the group has played shows in Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Kansas City, Lawrence, New Orleans, Des Moines, Ames, Sioux City, Fargo, Duluth, etc... and internationally in Toledo, and Madrid Spain, among others. Closer to home, The group has opened for national acts the Toasters and Mustard Plug, and can be found everywhere around Minneapolis/Saint Paul playing at…First Avenue, 7th Street Entry, The Turf Club, The Triple Rock Social Club, Eclipse Records, Big V’s, The Uptown Bar, Stasiu’s Place, The Hexagon Bar, Lee’s Liquor Lounge, Memory Lanes, The Fine Line - festivals/art organizations… Art-A-Whirl, Diverse Emerging Music Organization (D.E.M.O.) – Radio and TV… KARE 11, The Current 89.3 FM, Radio K 104.5FM/ 770AM, KFAI 90.3/106.7FM Minneapolis /Saint Paul Fresh Air Radio. The American Dream EP can be found on iTunes and Amazon.com. Currently, the boys are hanging around the Twin Cities while finishing their upcoming LP "Cocktail For The Apocalypse", scheduled for release winter 2009-10. In the meantime, there will be some local shows, and a tour will follow the release of "Cocktail".

Broke Again (the American Dream)

Written By: R. Sells

Broke again, the good times have been spent.
The money’s gone, don’t know where the pay check went.
I’m broke again, living’s a vice and sin.
Working for the man's going to do me in.

Trials of every day seem so trite.
Let’s see what the beautiful are doing tonight.
Tune into reality, saccharine absurdity,
upper class fantasy’s come to life.

Glamour, riches, fame on gilded wings,
kissed by those to whom good fortune brings.
Minimum wage is tough and never quite enough;
the other side has a different tune it sings…

My account ran dry and my car is bust.
Like every dollar reads in God we trust,
my green backs are gone; something’s very wrong.
Can’t seem to get ahead, in a system corrupt…

Go ahead and close your eyes and pray before you die,
you’ll get a taste of what lies on the other side.
Meanwhile in the penthouses on fifth avenue,
they’re placing all their bets on exactly what you’ll do.
Plastic idols manufactured on my T.V. screen,
singing requiems for the American dream…
I’m broke again.

Broken Glass

Written By: R. Sells

Broken glass, picking up the pieces of my life
that has shattered on a concrete floor.
Shards of pain cut my fingers ‘til they bleed,
And I can’t hold on no more.

All night and through the troubled day,
will I ever see your face again?

Won’t look back, memories fragments in my mind,
I guess it’s the way things got to be.
Can’t you see everything is all torn up?
Did you lie when you spoke to me?

All night and through the troubled day,
will I ever see your face again?

On my mind it’s a fragile kind of life,
Guess that’s the way things got to be.
Round and round I forgotten who was right,
Thrown away like the memory.

All night and through the troubled day,
I’ve been looking through a drunken haze.
Yeah, I’ll never see you again.
But will I ever see your face again?

Double Crossed

Written By: R. Sells

Late at night, before the twilight of morn’
A double agent's cover realized.
Secret agenda full of deception and lies,
He’s done playing both the sides

Double crossed, it plays out in between
the shadows of what’s done and seen.
Intrigue to disguise true intent
unknown what was said and meant
Don’t even try and repent.

Cloak and dagger has a price to high.
Desire's last card has been played.
Message intercepted, but the code has been cracked.
Both his faces are like a cold steel blade.

Double crossed, it plays out in between
the shadows of what’s done and seen.
Intrigue to disguise true intent.
Unknown what was said and meant.
Don’t even try and repent.

Well…
It’s just a silhouette in the dark.
Won’t be an assassins mark.
It’s a mystery you’re hearts desire.
Won’t be consumed by the fire.
I’ve stared into the abyss,
Don’t need you’re cold war kiss.
It’s just a silhouette in the dark…the double cross.

Can't Keep Us Down

Written By: R. Sells

Well, you just can't keep us down.
If you try to stop us, we're gonna' keep pressing on.
If you think we're done, you're wrong!

Toiling away in the summer heat,
in an attic space, we keep the beat.
We don't give a damn what the papers say
because we're gonna' do it our own way.

Opression's hand tryin' to keep us down.
Got a spark, fire, and a burning sound.
We're taking it to the brink,
and we're gonna' laugh and have one more drink.

Well, you just can't keep us down.
If you try to stop us, we're gonna' keep pressing on.
If you think we're done, you're wrong!

Nothing else can quite compare,
got nothing to loose, so we're gonna' dare.
So if you thought that you got us beat,
we don't know the meaning of defeat.

Got a spark, fire, and a burning sound and nothing's gonna' keep us down!
