"Panic Room - Equilibrium (Nederlandese)"

"Panic Room - Equilibrium (English)"

Italy must be having rehearsal rooms next to each kitchen, because the bands just keep on coming. Now this one is for me quite a surprise, as I don’t remember to have ever before heard an Italian band perform this kind of music. Panic Room plays modern rock in the vein of Incubus combined with the harsher sound of Deftones. But while the vocals closely resemble those of Incubus (but by no means are a bad copy), the band isn’t a copycat. It is just so that they wear their influences on their sleeves with pride, and build a bunch of very solid songs on top of it. The songs never get bored as they all have their own distinct melodies that get you humming along.

Does any of the previously mentioned make you curious? Then don’t hesitate and give them a first listen on their MySpace. Secondly, I can assure you that the digipack in which the whole record comes is worth the spending (you can read the interview in this same issue for more detailed information), and that all the other songs on it are worthy of equally much attention.

"Equilibrium"

Not to be confused by the Portuguese Brutal Death Metal act by the same name (who’ve left us, as far as I know, 4 demos and one EP to date, the latter dating back to 2006), nor with the female fronted Welsh Alternative/ Experimental Rock band (who’ve already released two albums since 2008), this Parma based North-Italian sextet (consisting of singer Francesco Liuzzi, guitarists Rocco Cortesi & Marco Mambriani, turntables and synthesizer handler DJ Seth, bassist Simone Pilato, and drummer Matteo Taglioli) had been goin’ through life as Redrum (not exactly original) since 2002, when in 2008 they decided to change both styles and name!

Now we certainly could argue about the originality of the name, but what concerns the music the guys already recorded during April of 2008 at Pisa’s West Link Recording Studio (in a co-production with Ale Paollucci) it cannot be denied that they bring an interesting amalgam of Melodic Contemporary Rock/ Metal with some additional fringes from the DJ, his contributions (including occasional samples) ranging from atmospherics to scratching, over Industrial touches. The question at this moment is whether he’s still part of the band, because I don’t see in the line-up mentioned in the line-up at the band’s MySpace anymore. Hum? Yeah, what with the slight down-tuning on the rhythm guitar you might indeed dub this a Nu-Metal band, for sure! For once, we get a singer whom doesn’t need to shout/ scream his guts out (which doesn’t mean that there ain’t some aggressive vocals on the album after all) to nót reveal his native origins. In other words, the singing is as good as from an English or American band. Not surprizingly, the band got some very good to excellent international responses, with website lordsofmetal.nl not only interviewing the band but also naming Panic Room as “Band Of The Month” for July 2009.

A reaction which I deem to be everything but exagerated, and you can convince yourself of the same by listening to the three tracks posted at myspace.com/panicroomworld. The 11-track, near 42-minute album comes in a great digipack package which is simply sublime and…darn, here’s an album deserving to be put into my year-lists retro-actively!!!

"Ave Metal review of Equilibrium"

Pod ciekawa okladka i ogólnie swietna oprawa graficzna kryje sie nowoczesny rock/nu metal na modle Disturbed, Staind, Deftones, System Of A Down, momentami nawet Limp Bizkit. "Equilibrium" jest dosc nierówne, bo poza 'flakami z olejem' znalazlo sie tu takze kilka w moim odczuciu genialnych kawalków. Dobra, bez przesady. W kazdym razie dobrych, wybijajacych sie i przede wszystkim - podobajacych sie. - AVE METAL .COM WEBZINE

"Equilibrium Review"

If I base my opinion on the publisher’s earlier albums, this material is by far their best, meeting the standards of the international scene. I hope to hear more of this band.

- www.heavyhardes.de

"PANIC ROOM (I) - Equilibrium"

- www.underground-empire.com

"Panic Room “Equilibrium”"

These guys don’t even look vaguely ‘metal’ so it comes as no surprise that their style of alternate rock owes itself more to the Afghan Whigs, Red Hot Chilli Peppers although at times the Middle Eastern vocal warblings are highly reminiscent of System Of A Down, hence the bottom heavy end they have to their sound. Although well played, I found the fusion stuff somewhat tiring (probably cos it had all been done before) and tended to prefer the more straight forward material like ‘Take Me Away’ or ‘Crazy Bullet’ which although less experimental, was altogether more catchy and mentally penetrating. - www.battlehelm.com

Bio

The first album of the band titled EQUILIBRIUM will be issued at the beginning of 2009.
The Album has been recorded at West Link Recording Studio (Raw Power, Prozac+, Shandon, Forty Winks ecc) of Pisa and mastered at the Marcussen Mastering Studio (Korn, Incubus, Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, ecc) L.A. California.
2009 is the year of transition for the band, characterized by fundamental moments: even though the group loses its dj due to artistic diversions, it wins the critics award at the Lavagna Sound Beach, during which the band gives a good impression to Daniel Marcoccia the director of Rocksound and president of the jury, earning two excellent reviews in his magazine.
Many reviews of the record arrive from all over Europe, from webzine, specialized magazines and radio programmes, but the group lacks a live tour which would allow the promotion of "equilibrium" on a wider scale! Therefore the production of the first videoclip "Star" directed by Zedd Cavallo (collaborator with Articolo 31 and Gemelli Diversi), and the decision to rescind the contract with UK Division label and sign up with SFEM who will re-edit the album in September 2010 with a new pomotional campaign.
