"Unsigned Artist of the Month"

Panika is a Melbourne based electro-hip hopper who has spent the last year mac-top- DJing around country.

Her latest independant release, "Genetically Modified" has been gaining much support and respect in the Triple J Unearthed competion getting both Triple J air time and comments such as "Best Aussie Female Hip Hop artist this year!!!!!!" and "wicked, wicked, wicked bass line mate, LOVE YOUR WORK witty choppy lyrics and a catchy chorus awesome".

Hip hop has traditionally been reserved for 'the boys', with its rhyming bravado and tough street politics.

In America, there are plenty of hip hop divas who take their cues from Madonna's Material Girl, but because hip hop is very much underground in Australia, female MC's are still proving themselves on the mike.

So as a female hip hopper she is in the minority in a male dominated music genre, but it is obvious from this album that Panika is definitly on her way to joining other female Oz Hip Hop artists such as Maya Jupiter, MC Trey, Mother Tongues and Macromantics as a must on your track list.

"Catch Of The Day: Panika - Bezerk"

This triplejunearthed.com artist is doing double duty, playing acoustic music as Rosie Burgess and uke-hop as Panika.

Uke-hop? Yep, ukelele with hip-hop beats. Very tidy stuff. Bezerk is a great tune, short and snappy with some tidy production, and it's my catch of the day today.

Looking forward to hearing more from this lady.

"3CR hip hop show review"

Genetically Modified, Panika’s latest album, shifts through musical genres, from techno and trance beats in “Bezerk,” to electronica hip
hop fusion in “Genetically Modified Organisms.” In “Directly at the Sun,” Panika’s alter-ego, folk singer Rosie Burgess makes an appearance, singing soft and sweet about love. There are old sound-bites looped in, scratched over, put to hot beats and quirky melodies. The music is a gentle polarisation of the aggressive, intrusive male – dominated hip hop genre.

The album is a socially-conscious exploration of social and environmental issues, from feminism, to respect between people, and respect for the earth. The lyrics are honest and personal, challenging listeners to be more self-reflective and aware of the issues surrounding them on a personal and political level. But the musical vibe is laid back, with a slightly sci-fi rythym that takes listeners on a journey from the whistling on “Get Manic,” that is reminiscent of sitting under a tree in the sunshine, to deep breathing and trance beats in “Falling,” that are intimate and subtle. It’s one of those albums you want to play right through, following the artist on a journey, rather than select your favourite track to play on repeat.

We need more performers of Panika's caliber. For a performer to not only get a whole club pumping but also to raise their consciousness is a rareity these days -- but Panika manages it to do it with ease an style that you can never get enough of it. - event co-ordinator - fionn batchelor

When she's not performing live, panika mac-top- DJs around country with the Uberlingua crew, this year featuring at the St Jeromes Laneway festivals in Melbourne and Sydney.

Her latest independant release, "genetically modified" is a melting pot of sizzling australian electro-hip hop lushness. Once again, never afraid to voice an opinion, panika slides through issues of life, love, living and all that comes in between through a blend of hip hop, drum n bass and electro squelch beats.

The album has been received excellently nationwide, with multiple tracks being placed on high rotation on different stations across Australia, and featured on JJJ's unearthed as a Feature Artist.

After three awesome sets at Woodford Folk Festival over New Year panika has established a name for herself as one of Australia's most exciting up and coming hip hop acts.
