FOR the tongue-tied teenager, unable to express their feelings, Pape M'Baye has a percussive solution.
Using a drumstick and his hand, the self-proclaimed ''Afro-Aussie'' musician beats out ''I love you'' on a sabar drum.
''We have drum language and then we communicate with sabar,'' said M'Baye, from Senegal. ''Each rhythm in the sabar means something. We have rhythm for wedding, naming ceremony, healing, the same way you are using your phone.''

Bio

Chosani Afrique, led by multi-instrumental percussionist, Pape Mbaye, derives its rhythmic force from deep within Mbaye's ancestral roots of his Griot tribe in Senegal.

Playing Djembe, Sabar, Balafon and Guitar, Mbaye & Chosani Afrique transport you to a place laced with the nostalgic warmth of tradition and the exhilaration of that spiritual mysticism one can only experience in mother Africa.

A collision of pulsing Latin overtones with inflections of Gypsy Jazz; driven by traditional rhythms - the music of Chosani Afrique is inspired by Mbaye's travels within Europe, and by the contemporary music that infiltrated Africa in the 1970's - 1980's.

Living and working in Australia since 1999 Pape has played in African Diaspora, Global Roots and Marsala, highlighting his versatility as a musician.

His original songs are based upon traditional proverbs and stories and many are sung in Wolof, his native language.
Pape has an undeniable ability to unlock all inhibitions, igniting the senses in his dynamic compositions and powerful delivery.

Chosani Afrique has played at noted Festivals such as:
