"Dothan Native Bring Bluegrass to Wiregrass"

When they decided to form a band and release a CD, Andy Stuckey and Katherine Slingluff Stuckey looked back on their first year together for inspiration.

The couple had been writing songs together since they began dating in 2005 ─ Andy living in New York and Katherine in New Orleans. Andy even sent her a ukulele as a gift. The two knew each other from their days at Northview High School in Dothan. They married in 2006, and Katherine moved to New York.

Music continued to be a part of their life together. Earlier this year, they released the CD “Signature Confessions” with their band Paper Anniversary ─ a nod to the traditional gift of paper for your first wedding anniversary. Their musical style is a mix of country, Americana and bluegrass sounds.

“It was inspired by the songs we started to write our first year together,” Andy Stuckey said. “Some of them we finished; some of them we didn’t.”

Katherine said she loves the camaraderie of performing with other bluegrass musicians in New York.

“There’s a huge bluegrass community here in New York and more specifically in Brooklyn, really, where we are,” she said.

As parents of a 5-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son, the couple does not get to perform often. But, Paper Anniversary will perform at this year’s Yard Party for Art, the annual fundraiser for the Wiregrass Museum of Art in downtown Dothan. Normally a one-night event, this year’s Yard Party for Art will be held on Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 - Dothan Eagle

Discography

Our Album Signature Confessions came out in 2015. We are currently writing new  songs and are regularly performing new stuff that will be on our upcoming record. Release Date TBD.
About our first album.

We set out to make an album that was a slice of our life from a happy time.  At least a title, a chorus or a first draft of all of these songs was written during our first year together, or what Katherine calls, “The Salad Days”. We named our band “Paper Anniversary” in honor of that first year.  The title of the album comes from a line in our song Falling Apart. “Signature Confessions” felt like an appropriate title since the songs are so close to us. We recorded the album at Saltlands Studio in DUMBO (Brooklyn, NY) with our friend Eli Janney (Late Show with Seth Meyers) engineering, producing and mixing the record.
