Biography

“I can state with absolute certainty that you should clear your plans.......and go see Paper and Sand.” So says Jillian Pullara, in a recent feature on music blog Gears of Rock. Music journalist Bill Reese (Good Times Magazine, Skope Entertainment) writes that “Paper and Sand live up to their moniker—crafting songs that combine abrasive, aggressive guitars with precise and delicate arrangements.”

Formed in 2006 by good friends who had met during their studies at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, Paper and Sand takes structured pop songs, injects them with a healthy dose of music-nerd odd times and weird noises, and makes them very, very loud. They've quickly made an impact on NY's music scene on the strength of their powerful live performance and the nuanced songwriting of frontman Wil Farr.

Paper and Sand's debut album, “Wolf at My Door,” was released in 2007 to an enthusiastic reception and selected as a Featured Release on Itunes. They have appeared on NY's Indigo TV and filmed a live performance for Fox Television's Fearless Music. The band regularly appears at top New York City clubs including the Knitting Factory main stage, The Bitter End, and Crash Mansion. They have performed at NYC's H.O.W.L. Festival and traveled across the northeast. In late 2007 they inked a distribution contract with Cordless/Rykodisc and in 2009 they secured a licensing deal with MPL Communications. Paramount Entertainment recently licensed 5 of the band's songs for use in the "Top Gun" iPhone video game.

The band recently released their second album, titled “Thick as Thieves.” Their 2009 touring schedule will take them across the eastern half of the country. Please visit them on the web at www.myspace.com/paperandsand and on Facebook.

Lyrics

(i'm just the) Wrecking Ball

Written By: Paper and Sand

I don't like this place. The passion is the only thing blind and in our way. We will be the only ones entered in submission, centered on a missing link, that we have chose to disregard. I have chose to stretch it, I have chose to break it.
All this time I've had pride in my design so don't blame me.
I'm just the wrecking ball.
Time moves fast my friend so live it up and drink it in. Dust and ash and sin will soon become thick as thieves. I am not the mission. I am not the missing link I'm just another wrecking ball.
All this time I've had pride in my design so don't blame me.
I'm just the wrecking ball.
I'm not the enemy.
I am the wrecking ball.
I've got pride so damn your eyes.
I am the wrecking ball.

In Disguise

Written By: Paper and Sand

This is a shout out to all of my good friends who never left me, who always stuck with me. Always to the end, always believing that I could change. I know I'm crazy, my memory evades me and I have made mistakes I will regret. Time is a thief that I know that I cannot ever catch.
Come on; listen to me, because these are the last words that you might hear
If I should ever have the chance to die bury me in fire so I can watch above and smile sheltered by the smoke. Should the flames choose not to take me in, on account of where I've been, devour each and every sin; but do be quite discreet. In disguise.
I called up my mother, told her I loved her, said she was ten times more precious than gold. It makes me shudder to know, like my mother, I will grow old. My body is achy and sometimes betrays me. I'm growing colder as time passes by but I just keep doing what I've been doing because that's my style
Come on; listen to me, because these are the last words that you might hear
If I should ever have the chance to die bury me in fire so I can watch above and smile sheltered by the smoke. Should the flames choose not to take me in, on account of where I've been, devour each and every sin; but do be quite discreet.
It's strange how life creeps up on you. When there's still so much left to do.
Come on; listen to me, because I have nothing left to fear and these are the last words that you'll hear.
If I should ever have the chance to die bury me in fire so I can watch above and smile sheltered by the smoke. Should the flames choose not to take me in, on account of where I've been, devour each and every sin; but do be quite discreet. In disguise.

There I Go Again

Written By: Paper and Sand

Step one, sit down turn around lock your feet to the ground. Step two, stand up and let out a shout. "I am alive", let me hear you scream, "I am alive"! Then you hear me sing,
There I go again, looking up and down and all around to find out where I've been. You get what you pay for what I paid for is what I got in the end. Oh, there I go again.
Step three, walk tall through it all, keep your eye on the ball. Step four; realize in life that sometimes you fall. "Why try, oh god why try, if I'm going to fall? Why should I try? What's the use in it?"
There I go again, looking up and down and all around to find out where I've been. You get what you pay for what I paid for is what I got in the end. Oh, there I go again.
What do you know; here we go I wrote another sad song for me to sing on your shoulder. I've grown accustomed to the fact I wear my heart on my sleeve because I know in the end my friends and lovers will leave. Just like my father did me. I don't know I just can't be alone.
There I go again, looking up and down and all around to find out where I've been. You get what you pay for what I paid for is what I got in the end. Oh, there I go again.

The Cruelest Joke

Written By: Paper and Sand

night has left and the sun begins to close it's tired eyes. are you awake? shut tight, the blinds lock out the day. with steady hands i pray for sleep again.

your song is on but it won't sing to me no longer. i walked through fire to beg for you to stay. one time you proclaimed naked in bed, "my dear you are lost", and i believed. i can't pretend it's fine anymore.

we all long to be inside a lover's arms. like a sailor scanning the sea for wreckage on distant shores. it's breaking my heart. you're breaking my heart.

if you're listening then listen to me. if you're listening you'll hear the joke of the century. if you're listening, the cruelest joke that will ever be.
