We recently released our self titled dedut Ep. We have gotten air play with three of the songs on Chicago radio station WXRT. We also get spins on various college radio stations. We are currently working on our next EP.

Paperbear has been a working for just over two years. All members hail from the Chicago area, specifically from the southwest side. Founder and vocalist, Derek Stawikowski, started making music with fellow musician, drummer, and friend, Ryan Krestel. Soon after guitarist/keyboardist, DanBurke, became involved after hearing samples of their early work. When things began, Derek contacted friend, Jose Gunter, from an earlier musical project to play bass for the group. Jose quickly became an important part of the writing and vibe that formed an early reputation of their signature sound.
As a four-piece band, they realized that the arrangements needed something more, another element to achieve the full potential of their vision. After trying out various musician, they found keyboardist/synth/soundscapist, Matthew Gourse, to complete the band. Soon after this new group became versed in each other’s ideas and abilities, the unique sound of Paperbear emerged. The group began playing in and around Chicagoland performing their earlier compositions, and quickly started recording with producer, Joshua Shapira, to record their debut project that was released this past spring. Local radio stations, including WXRT, support their new record and have been spinning their music and plugging some recent Paberbear shows. Paperbear has been buzzing around Chicago growing a broader fan base, more air time and frequent live exposure. Since their record release, venues such as, Schubas, Empty Bottle, and Reggie’s Rock Club have given Paperbear the opportunity to perform live in front of enthusiastic audiences.
Paperbear is currently working on new compositions for their follow-up record, which is schedule for release in late 2009 or early 2010.
