Bio

It is an intriguing proposition to be an active band in Fairbanks, Alaska. With temperatures frequently hitting 40 below zero, we have little to do except create and perform our music for the small but vibrant arts community. Our primary setup consists of synthesizer/bass, guitar, and drums, and as such we've combined a Soul Live-like jazz combo feel with a traditional rock-trio setup. Our individual influences range from jam bands through singer songwriters with frequent stops on the way at sonic landmarks like Stereolab, the White Stripes, Broken Social Scene, The Bad Plus, Chumbawumba, The Benevito-Russo Duo, RJD2, and the list goes on!

I think we differentiate ourselves from other bands by our variety in style and sound. We have the ability to switch instrumentation and overall sound from song to song within a set while still retaining a sound unique to Paper Scissors. We can switch from a droning, staring at the sun, epic indie rock song to a demented circus rock story song very easily, and then wrap it all up with a hip-hop techno dance party song. And what's more is we execute these blendings of styles very well, and we pride ourselves on being one of the most well-known, well-beloved, and most-danced to bands in our area.

We're all three college students within varying states of completion. We all ride the Liberal Arts train with degrees in Art History, Theatre, and Photojournalism either finished or shortly on the way. But the one thing that binds us all together is a love for art, a love for music, and the desire to play our music for the rest of our lives. We have a tremendous work ethic and we're currently self-producing our first LP through a local studio. Once we have all graduated, we plan on moving to a larger city with more venues and opportunities for advancement in the industry, but right now we're content with recording an album entirely our way, honing our chops in a friendly and competitive environment, and daydreaming about playing to crowds of thousands.
