"The Rock (Plymouth, MA magazine)"

"Paper Thin Stages latest EP is a lot more professional than anything I’ve seen from other undiscovered bands. I really like this band. They’ve got something special here." - Ian Hughes

"Gods of Music"

"Paper Thin Stages is a band I’d love see perform live... Lead vocalist / guitarist Nate McDermott is marvelous. "Without A Fight" is a tasty piece complete with a blues laden solo that fits perfectly, a killer lead vocal track and a rhythm section that sounds like they’re totally in control of the situation. If you’re in the area, go see this band live. There’s no doubt that they have the goods to be a premier band anywhere they play." - Chris K.

Bio

"Music is like any other art form," says Paper Thin Stages singer and guitarist Nate McDermott, "If you finish a piece and are happy with the final product, then you are not pushing yourself enough as an artist."

Such is the musical philosophy of this Boston-based quartet- a desire to push their creative boundaries by exploring the manic tendencies and contradictions within themselves in order to evolve musically and hone their skills as songwriters. The result, as heard on their forthcoming and as yet untitled album, is a unique blend of driving indie-pop rock that is melodically gritty, tightly wound and redeeming in a way that first drags you through the mud. Building on the momentum from their independent debut "Easter Parade," the new album promises to be Paper Thin Stages' most successful effort to date. In keeping with the band's philosophy, though, it is clear that it will mark only one of the many musical progressions the band will make throughout its career, leaving you with the reassurance that there will always be something new and exciting to look forward to.

As a band, Paper Thin Stages is a fairly fresh face, though the history of its four members goes back much further. Brian Barber (guitar, backing vocals), Ed Hadley (drums), Nate McDermott (guitar, vocals), and John Perotti (bass) began playing together as Living Inward in 1998. In 2002, they independently released "Easter Parade," a five-song E.P. available online exclusively through Awarestore.com, whose catalogue includes the likes of Ben Folds, Guster, Train, and John Mayer. "Easter Parade" was received warmly in the music community, garnering the band rave reviews and radio airplay, most notably on WBCN's Boston Emissions.

With shows at a number of Boston's most respectable venues under their belts- including The Paradise Lounge, The Hard Rock Cafe, TT The Bear's, and the Middle East- Paper Thin Stages is quickly establishing a presence and devoted following throughout the northeast including New York City and Philadelphia. In support of its new release, the band will hit the ground running in early 2004, playing select dates in Boston, Providence, Worcester, and New York before heading out on the road in August reaching Chicago, Dayton, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and New York City among other cities. If past shows are any indication, the moving and energetic live performances of Paper Thin Stages will continue to win new fans, impress club owners, and earn the band a reputation as a must-see live act.
