"Illuminated EP review"

“Sparkling live future bass music. An 8-piece band straight out of Wolverhampton, Paper Tiger manage to put together all that’s best about current electronic music together in one package. Dubstep DJs should look to lead track ‘Delight Dub’, but the title track’s a jazzy roller not to be ignored. Intricate but punchy, weird but very wonderful, this is really lush stuff.” – 4/5 Mixmag - Mixmag

"Priceless EP review"

“Given how the off-grid rhythms of Brainfeeder/LuckyMe/Hoya:Hoya etc. are informed by the ‘liveness’ of cutting and MPC-bashing, it’s a natural (if risky) corollary to bring a live group to bear on the sound. This Wolverhampton/Leeds collective allow good natured slam-poet rapping and neo-soul vocals to dilute the intensity of their previous releases, but when those vocals are backgrounded it is once again more club than festival tent. ’7th Guide’ takes the synth-prog density of a Rustie or Slugabed and lifts it on clouds of Don Cherry rhythm with just the weight of a dub bassline stopping it from drifting off. ‘Slow It Down’ allows a house groove to evolve out of a fecund ecosystem of cosmic jazz and analogue animal calls. These are tentative steps into some rewarding territory.” - The Wire - The Wire

Bio

"Puts together all that's best about electronic. Intricate yet punchy, weird but very wonderful." - Mixmag

Paper Tiger began life many years ago as a bedroom experiment: produced electronic music incorporating live instruments and musicians. Since then the project has gone from strength to strength, gaining support from Radio 1, 1xtra, 6Music, Coldcut, Jamie xx, Mixmag, The Wire and many more DJs, radio shows and publications.

Over the past 18 months, a 7-piece live band has been performing these productions and more to packed out audiences across Europe. The shows are a fully live, uninterrupted mix of downtempo hip-hop, broken beat, dubstep and more: no sequencers or backing tracks, just furious pushing of buttons and flailing of limbs. The band has shared stages and festival bills with the likes of Nightmares On Wax, Hexstatic, Trojan Soundsystem, Jaga Jazzist, Dub Pistols, The Bug and Warrior Queen, Rustie, The Herbaliser, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Bonobo, Benji B, Daedelus, Gaslamp Killer, Benga and more. They also do DJ sets with live musicians and vocalists.
