"ROCK HUNGER With PARIS ENVY, SILO And VAL HALLA @ The Rusty Cage South, January 6th, 2011"

“On January 6th, 2011, Rusty Cage, Unrated Music, Paris Envy, Silo, and Val Halla banded together for the benefit of the Strathmore Food Bank, to raise food donations and awareness. The event, which was also the first concert planned by Unrated Music, managed to raise around 200lbs of canned and boxed food for the charity. Paris Envy is a relatively new band to the Calgary music scene, forming just this past summer. With Jonathan Duquette on guitar and vocals, Joelle Voit on bass, and Jeff Burns on drums, this talented and charming new rock band will have a loyal following of fans soon. The trio’s sound could be described as rock laced with power-pop undertones, and is definitely worth a listen . . . Stay tuned for more great benefit shows from Unrated Music and the Unrated Group, we’ll have a lot coming up in 2011! ”

Bio

In the summer of 2010 it became clear for 3 musical drifters on separate paths that the time was ripe to form an original rock outfit from the ground up, one with fresh energy and a spark reminiscent of the 90's rock era. That inspirational moment shared by three strangers would be the impetus for stars to align and the destiny of 3 lost souls to converge and culminate as Canadian Rock Band Paris Envy, serving up power-pop melodies laced with mature rock riffs that simultaeously mesmerize the listener while delivering sonic punches !

Axeman/Singer-Songwriter Jonathan Duquette (Jonny Dukes) leads the way as frenetic frontman for the group, while sultry Bassist Joelle Glass and journeyman Drummer Jeff Burns (Burnsy) provide the robust rythmnic engine harnessing a melodic maelstrom punctuated by manic bursts of guitar fury, all tempered by the dynamic contours of an innate musical symmetry as this power-pop trio navigate their way through the Heart of wherever this journey takes them.

They have a score to settle, a destiny to achieve ... and the rest Will Be History !"

BAND SYNOPSIS

PARIS ENVY became an Indie-Rock/Power-Pop trio in the fall of 2010, mostly by happenstance when summer rehearsals for a Blues-rock cover band resulted in reworking some of Jonny Duquette's original songs instead. Inspired by the new found songwriting synergy and eager to record (despite not yet having played a live show together), the new band headed directly into an aquaintance’s home studio to start tracking what would eventually become the debut LP “Paris Envy”.

The Band's sound is reminiscent of 90's era bands like 'The Replacements', 'Guided By Voices', 'The Lemonheads', 'Superdrag', L.A. punk-blues rockers 'The Gun Club', and Canadian Indie supergroup SLOAN.

The very first Live Show was at the Rusty Cage in Calgary (now Studio82) on Jan. 6th, 2011, opening for Metal band SILO and Country-Pop songtress VAL HALLA. The debut performance was well received by a pretty discerning audience who'd obviously come to see the established bands, and subsequent gigs around the city would consistently garner a diverse following (their fans affectiionately dubbed "Parisites") due to frequently sharing the stage with Metal, Post-Punk, and Hard-Rock acts.

Unfortunately the band's momentum was tested early on with the sudden onslaught of personal issues and a severe falling-out with the recording studio, to the point of temporarily splitting up the band and ultimately threatening the Album's completion (it was jokingly being referred to as "Chinese Democracy II", the infamous Axl Rose album several years in the making).

"The positive way to look at that rough patch .." concludes drummer Jeff Burns, "is to say we efficiently consolidated a lot of Life-lessons into one short time-frame ... in other words, we got a lot of bulls**t out of the way early. Overcoming all those things at once actually galvanized us as a band. Now we're primed for anything, everyone's upbeat and ready to kick some ass! We just love playing music and feel like we've got something special here, a real musical synergy."

Since then the trio of Jonathan Duquette (vocals, guitar), Joelle Glass (bass, vocals) and Jeff Burns (drums) have re-emerged with renewed vigor and purpose, finally launching the long awaited Self-Titled Debut Album in December of 2012, and steadily working their way into independent radio airplay and future music festivals. They have another EP's worth of songs already written that including four tracks penned by Joelle (that feature her on lead vocal) and as many who have seen PARIS ENVY perform Live can attest, her alluring stage persona adds a whole other dimension to the band's stage presence and delivery. Bit of that rock grrrl flair you could say.

Local campus radio station CJSW has included the debut album in their programming library, and Rock Radio's X929 (in particular "Xposure" host Matt Berry) took a liking to the band and subsequently included the infectious, rockabilly-infused single "Bill Of Sale" into limited rotation.

Things are looking up for this unlikely union of musically disparate miscreants, in fact PARIS ENVY have barely tapped into the collective rock n' roll spirit that burns for an Indie Rock Revolution, one in which they're more than willing to help lead the charge.
