"Watch: Parralox Unveil Music Video For "Eye In The Sky" (The Alan Parsons Project Cover)"

Melbourne electronic/synth pop band Parralox have unveiled the video for their cover of the Alan Parsons Project 1982's classic "Eye In The Sky".

The song serves as the second single off their concept album 'Recovery', released back in July via Subterrane Records.

The video, starring high fashion model Rowena Kang, is a collaboration between John Ibrahim (Grey Aviary) and John von Ahlen, and was filmed in von Ahlen's Melbourne studio, constructing a practical mirror box set piece to achieve the optical illusion of infinite reflections.

"Logo/The Backlot - Watch: Parralox Updates The Alan Parsons Project’s “Eye In The Sky” With Eerie Music Video"

It’s always reassuring when a pop gem from ’82 finds new life. (Don’t worry, I’m not talking “Ebony and Ivory” or “Centerfold,” so your conscience will be clear and whole after this.)

The Australian band Parralox, featuring gay lead singer John von Ahlen, just released the video for its cover of the Alan Parsons Project hit “Eye in the Sky,” and it’s an exclusive to TheBacklot. The cover is a world of ambience and extraterrestrial electronics away from the original, which was pretty unassuming for a #3 U.S. hit. Parallox’s version is downright danceable, sounding more like a Robyn smash than a rehash, and that makes the song’s voyeuristic lyrics feel that much weirder.

The brand new video features mirrored sets, model Rowena Kang, and serious Depeche Mode attitude. I guess such fun melodrama is expected from a band called Parralox, which is a reference to that Absolutely Fabulous episode where Patsy injects Saffi’s hand with a Botox knockoff and paralyzes it. These are our people.

The track is available on Parralox’s album Recovery. - Logo / The Backlot

"Perez Hilton: Listen To This: Heads Up!"

It's been almost five years since we last posted a song from Australian group
Parralox.

We are so happy that they're back and sounding sweet as ever!

Their new song, Eye In The Sky, sounds like an Abba written for a TV theme filtered with 80s synths.

It's kinda magical!!!!!!!

Check it out above!

"Aussie Synthpop cover mania!"

And so the time came for another cover album where a synthpop artist interprets (mostly) other synthpop artists. Even though I usually find these offerings quite redundant as they rarely serve up something new, but “Recovery”, on the whole, is an exception to this rule.

As representatives for Australian electropop, John von Ahlen and Amii Jackson have done an exceptionally good job since their start almost 6 years ago. What makes “Recovery” stand out is the fact that a couple of the Parralox renditions actually can compete with their originals. Like ABBA’s classic “The Day Before You Came”, where Amii really shines on the vocals. Madonna’s “Physical Attraction” also gets a brilliant face lift and it was nice to hear a more poppy, club-friendly take on the Front 242 EBM staple “Headhunter”.

In all honesty, the Depeche Mode cover “Somebody” could have been left out, but as the rest of the album is so strong, that’s a small minus. Other acts getting the Aussie treatment include Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Noel, Cure and Joy Division. Also – be sure to check out the forthcoming solo album from John, under the Sound of the Crowd alias. - Release Magazine

"Parralox - Back in the '80s and the new ;) Ricky Martin."

If you also have - as I do - dance in the late '80s with Pet Shop Boys and Taylor Dayne, and several others of that era, then you will love this one!

The Parralox is a duo from Australia, consisting of producer John von Ahlen and vocalist Amii, and chose to remix - and very well indeed - a forgotten song by Noel in 1987 to honor their favorite music decade.

As for Ryan Adames , who joins them on 'Silent Morning' , is a young Puerto Rican singer with obvious ambition to resemble the compatriot, Ricky Martin. Good luck, because you will probably need it much. - Blip Blogging (Greek Website)

Originally recorded by The Alan Parsons Project in 1982, Parralox’s inventive version of “Eye in the Sky” is a mesmerizing hit, infused with powerful talent. At the helm of Parralox’s world-class sound sits mastermind producer and lead vocalist, John von Ahlen. John’s commitment to the electronic-pop genre is unparalleled and his knowledge and depth in the world of electronica and its related technologies is second-to-none. The soundscape takes many structural turns and twists as the lyrics further develop into a Pulitzer Prize worthy piece of poetry. The video begins with the opening of an eye in synch with the drumbeat, booming bass, and synth lines jumping straight at you through an electronic mélange of sound after the gong of a clock chime. The music video for "Eye in the Sky" is a collaboration between John Ibrahim (Comme des Garcon/Grey Aviary) and John von Ahlen. After endless cups of coffee and many late nights in von Ahlen's Melbourne studio, a vision started to slowly emerge. Rather than rely on CGI and special effects, it was decided to construct a practical mirror box set piece to achieve the optical illusion of infinite reflections in the music video. High fashion model Rowena Kang co-stars in the video to add an out-of-this-world atmosphere. Rowena's unique and striking presence brings a whole new element to the Parralox video and you'll quickly see why she is highly desired by numerous major fashion houses. Decidedly claustrophobic, "Eye In The Sky" captures the essence of reflection, observation and introspection.

As a young child, John von Ahlen explored music and took up both the saxophone and clarinet, and by high school John had switched his focus to piano and synthesizers. In 1993, John teamed up with international songwriter John Collins and Grammy nominated artist Gina G for the "Bass Culture" album and was soon signed to Mushroom Records. These songs were used in a list of TV shows that are still receiving residuals today. Aside from his music career, John is also a member of Joy 94.9 (Melbourne’s only LGBT radio) and an animal rights activist.

"Parralox: Owning it"

What happens when you mix an awesome 80’s song, a digital remix, an international supermodel and an Australian band? What sounds like the potential beginnings of a joke are anything but. With the release of the single Eye in the Sky by Parralox, we see just how creatively, and ultimately perfectly, these puzzle pieces can fit together.

Utilizing smooth vocals, electronica sound, and new ideas the infamous collaborators have created a song sure to lull any listener into a trance and a dance. The beat lures you to get up and move while the haunting lyrics resonate in a way that only Parralox could give. Refreshing the song, originally recorded in 1982 by The Alan Parsons Project, Parralox shows that when they take what they want, they own it. Creating a unique vibe of musical and ethereal blends, the song simply belongs with them.

In the music video, we see Japanese supermodel Rowena Kang face to face with John Von Ahlen, producer turned lead singer, in a mirror box. Reflecting pieces of each other, and blending together, in a fashion true to rouse any androgynous perception, the two play beautifully off of each other, each claiming their own well deserved spotlight. Electronic sound and reconstruction never looked so good.

Parralox is an EDM driven, pop infused production that is created by John von Ahlen. Parralox is based out of Australia and has found success internationally with their unique sound. Parralox first came onto the music scene back in 2008 with their debut album Electricity.
Parralox has created a record that is modern, pop infused, catchy and carries an EDM tone throughout the album. Recovery seems like it has come out of the future. The beats are unique, the styling of the vocals match the futuristic tone that can be heard on Electricity and every song is danceable. "Parralox could use a clone or two"

Tell us about how you got the name Parralox.
When I started the band I went through the usual name searching process and was watching Futurama and heard someone mention something about the letter X being cool in a name. That triggered something inside me, so I started to think about possible names with an “X”. Out of the blue I came up with the name Parralox and was quite pleased at having come up with such an original name.
It wasn’t until a few months later that someone pointed out it was also the name of an episode from a favourite TV series of mine. Oops! Here I was thinking I was so original, when really my subconscious had other ideas. But I guess it’s a good parallel, given that so much of our musical style is about referencing the past, while looking towards the future.

You’ve collaborated with the hot Latin artist Ryan Adames for your single “Silent Morning”. If you could collaborate with any artist for your next single who would it be?
For our next single I’m collaborating with an amazing singer from the UK called Francine. We also have some other amazing singers lined up: Johanna Gervin, and two others, which I can’t mention as we haven’t signed the dotted line yet. People will be wetting their pants a little bit, I know I am. So it’s a very exciting time for Parralox.

I guess there is always the fantasy to work with high profile singers that I idolize, (the fan-boy inside me would just die if it happened)! It’s probably a better strategy to focus on talent that’s just breaking out and is new and fresh. I guess it’s better to stand on your own two feet, is what I’m trying to say.

Unless Madonna called me tomorrow, in which case I would be picking up that phone in a heartbeat.

Which other genres of music would you like to try? Which ones would you like to avoid, if any?
In my recording career I’ve covered most styles, but at the moment I’m looking to explore a more acoustic/folky/electronica sound, which I’m doing in my side project “The Sound Of The Crowd”.
I also have an itch to produce some R&B, more along the vein of Afrika Bambaataa v/s Kraftwerk v/s Roxanne Shante v/s Missy Elliot.
Some electro R&B is so pure it drives me crazy, especially with a kick ass rapper over the top. Actually, I do have my eye on a rapper in the UK. I’ve asked management to reach out to her, so we’ll see what happens.
To be perfectly honest though, I wish I could clone myself and work 24 hours a day 7 days a week because there are really so many styles I want to explore.
If I had to pick one to avoid, it would be heavy metal/death metal. I’ve done enough of that in my time. I love bands like Tool / Muse but I don’t think you could consider them heavy metal. I don’t anyway.
And I love Ozzy Osbourne, so go figure!

John, how did you get started in music?
It happened in primary school. My father introduced to me electronics and Ham Radio at an early age. Next was getting into computers, which were very different beasts to what we have today. At around the same time I was listening to a lot of music and watching all these amazing videos on TV (it was the 80’s after all) and somehow something clicked. I remember a Saturday afternoon when I heard “The Things That Dreams Are Made Of” from the Love & Dancing album (The Human League) and was COMPLETELY blown away by what I heard. It was the perfect fusion of technology and music. Of course I was already listening to things like Kraftwerk etc, but something about that song struck a nerve.
From that moment I put every cent I had into drum machines and synthesizers. And I haven’t stopped!

If/When you’re lacking in inspiration, how do you kick start your creativity?
It doesn’t really happen often, but if it does then I just switch from one discipline to another. Meaning that if I’m stuck on something like songwriting (which never happens) then I’ll move onto graphic design, animation, web design or some other creative area. The one thing I’ve learned is to never force anything. Ideas come when they come, and if you find yourself stuck on one thing, then move onto something else.
Honestly, ideas never stop flowing, so it’s just about channeling the energy into the right area.

Now that your album Recovery has been out for a while, what’s next in the world of Parralox?
I just finished editing the video for our new single “Eye In The Sky” which is due out in November. Next up is to finish off work on the new single for 2014. I’m flying to London to shoot the video for that, so that’ll be lots of fun. Then it’s a matter of continuing to record new tracks for the forthcoming Parralox album, which we plan to release mid 2014 (its all original songs). I’m working with a few different singers this time so it’s very exciting indeed.
Amongst all that, I have a bunch of remix work to do, as well as producing music for other artists as well as managing my side project.
Oh, and I must remember to take my darling Jack out for a walk too - Aural Addiction

"Parralox - Recovery"

If you loved the keyboard driven techno sounds of dance bands from the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s...chances are the folks in Parralox are gonna knock your socks off. The band is the project created by Australian producer John von Ahlen. This album also includes the vocal talents of Roxy, Ryan Adames, Amii Jackson, and van Ahlen himself. Parralox is already a favorite among lots of music fans around the planet. And after spinning this album we can certainly see why. These groove-oriented tracks absolutely command movement. The songs feature solid 4/4 rhythms with perpetual beats and nice big meaty keyboard sounds. There's a lot to chomp into here...fourteen intoxicating cuts that'll have folks on dance floors around the world sweating up a storm. Our favorite tracks include "In The Night," "Headhunter," "Physical Attraction," and "A Little Respect." This package also includes a nifty art booklet that is just too cool for words. - Baby Sue

"EQ Music Blog: The Story Behind the Video for “Silent Morning” by Parralox ft. Ryan Adamés"

It’s finally here! Check out the official video for “Silent Morning” by EQ Music artists Parralox and Ryan Adamés.
The video yesterday made it’s official debut on the prestigious EDM news site Elektro Magazine and was quickly picked up by world famous pop music aficionado Arjan Writes and we couldn’t be any more happier with the response it’s received in less than 24 hours. - EQ Music Blog

"Arjan Writes: Video Premiere Parralox featuring Ryan Adamés 'Silent Morning' First Look"

While '90s inspired deep house is all the rage right now with the success of acts like Disclosure, Jessie Ware, Duke Dumont and Rudimental, there's plenty of other retro-styled, forward-thinking tunage to check out. Take for example Parralox's new single "Silent Morning" that features Latin crooner (and bonafide heartthrob) Ryan Adamés. It's a synth gem that I'm sure '80s aficionados everywhere will be salivating over.

Set to shiny analog synths, a bouncy bassline and a dancefloor-ready groove, "Silent Morning" is a savvy remake of Noel's 1987 original that takes listeners back to the glory days of the '80s. Parralox is the Aussie teaming of producer John von Ahlen and singer Amii who invited Ryan Adamés to contribute vocals to the song. It's a perfect combo. The interplay between Amii's highly-stylized vocal delivery and Adamés' warm-blooded performance strikes a perfect balance that gives the song a very special twist.

Parralox just released the official music video for "Silent Morning" that was shot in Miami during the annual Winter Music Conference. South Beach's daytime pastels and nighttime scenery is the perfect backdrop to the brilliant throwback action of the song. Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs would gladly approve.

"Australian Band, Parralox, Create Nostalgia with New Album “Recovery”"

Get lost in a world of electric dreams, with the a thrilling album of classic electronic pop covers from electronic pop / EDM duo Parralox on their latest album Recovery.

Recovery is packaged as a concept album that aims to take listeners on a refreshing and nostalgic journey through the genre during its most popular time – the 80’s. Recovery includes the lead single “Silent Morning”, a cover of the seminal freestyle classic by Noel and features vocals from the rising hot Latin pop artist, Ryan Adamés.

With Recovery being their fifth studio album, Parralox is well underway in growing their faithful fan base on an international level, specifically in Europe and in their home country of Australia. Brimming with electric energy and propulsive party beats created by rising world-class producer John Von Ahlen, Recovery is quite simply Parralox’s best effort to date.

With fresh new takes on legendary tracks by industry heavyweights such as Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, ABBA, Madonna and the hauntingly beautiful “Eye in the Sky” by Alan Parsons Project, Parralox’s “Recovery” continues to carve out a niche in today’s popular music landscape.

“Silent Morning” is already making waves in US clubs with numerous DJs and was recently given the remix treatment by the iconic DJ servicing force Ultimix as well as Martin Kierszenbaum aka “Cherry Cherry Boom Boom” of Cherrytree Records. The band also shot an accompanying modernistic music video for “Silent Morning” in Miami Beach, FL during the 2013 Winter Music Conference in which John von Ahlen was also a featured guest speaker.

Directed by John Von Ahlen, “Silent Morning” reflects the romantic tensions of the song’s lyrics. Visually, the video dons a modular effect with multiple screens shots capturing diva-like fashion contrasted by the seductive persona of Ryan Adamés. John was able to capture the essence of the original as well as merging it with their twist on the song to create a captivating visual production.

From start to finish, Recovery by Parralox is a product of growth with each song delivering as much excitement as the last. Go back to the future with Parralox’s new album Recovery, out now worldwide on iTunes. Follow the band at www.parralox.com. - Vents Magazine

"coolclevercovers: The Recovery album by @Parralox"

There’s very little that I like better in the world of music than a record that is full of ambition and is obviously a labour of love. Much-praised Australian duo Parralox (aka electronics whiz John von Ahlen and singer Amii Jackson) recorded Recovery over two years ago, but as the 1980's move further away, it’s probably better to be released now (available on iTunes), especially with new and notable releases this year by Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode, who have toured and/or are touring (as well as New Order). Parralox tackles songs by all of them – three by Depeche Mode, one by New Order and its predecessor Joy Division – as well as a most curious and intriguing gamut of 18 pop/new wave/dance tunes from the early 80's through to the early 90's, some hits or dance club hits, and others more on the fringe.

For those of you who know Parralox’s recent work, such as “Hotter” (from This Beat Is… Poptronik Volume One) and “Silent Morning”, the supurb cover of the Noel 80's freestyle and pop hit (also to be included on This Beat Is… Poptronik Volume Two), you are likely more familiar with Amii’s Gwen Stefani-meets-Madonna voice. She has additional shining moments on Recovery, bringing a new human dimension minus the robotix on Kraftwerk’s “The Model”; a bang on ready-for-clubs rendition of Madonna’s “Physical Attraction”; a synth-washed pop version of Depeche Mode’s “Somebody”; and a straight forward take on ABBA’s “The Day Before You Came”, as well as harmonies on some songs.

Most of the rest of the album is John’s baby. He’s brazen enough to offer up radio-ready “Eye In The Sky”, originally by The Alan Parsons Project and the biggest “hit” within, with eerie Eric Woolfson-like vocalizing, and it will be the next single from the album. He pulls some great 80s electropop out of storage, creating beautiful new synth sounds for Blancmange’s “Blind Vision” (who also recorded a much droller and different version of “The Day Before You Came” on the same album, Mange Tout); a dance floor feeding frenzy in the 7 minute + cover of Sparks’ “Number One Song In Heaven” (which original producer Giorgio Moroder has recently praised, take that!!); a more accessible reinterpretation of Front 242's industrial dance hit “Headhunter”, to me the best song on the album (listen below – wait for that whip to crack!), with vocals as if Dave Gahan joined forces with Blancmange’s Neil Arthur; a strong version of Depeche Mode’s recent hit “Heaven” that was made available on You Tube this Spring; and a bold, proud version of DM’s “Black Celebration” which opens the album as the perfect lead in.

Other successes on their own terms are covers of lesser known songs, such as The Cure’s early “A Forest”, The Human League’s “I Love You Too Much” (from the Hysteria album), Pet Shop Boys’ “In The Night Two” (which was the B-side to PSB’s 80's hit “Opportunities”), and Australian act Q Lazzarus’ “Goodbye Horses”, which some of you may know better from a mid-90s cover by Canadian group Psyche.

A record of 18 songs does not go without its missteps, and I give full credit to Parralox for their creativity and insight into these songs, but they would be the reworks of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, New Order’s “Touched By The Hand Of God”, and DAF’s “Kebabträume” – the latter is not my cuppa, and I’m way too attached to the originals of the former two. All in all, though, you can lock me up in a room anytime with a host of Parralox covers and while I might not know what to expect next, I will be totally, and enthusiastically, engaged :) - BILLCS MUSIC BLOG

"Weekend Supplement 2: Parralox featuring Ryan Adames ~ Silent Morning"

Confession ~ Today, I was going to write about Parralox's new album, Recovery, which is available across all fine online emporiums right now (see bottom of post for details). The album is an eclectic selection of cover versions, deconstructed and recreated by the talented duo to exquisite effect. However, as I sat and listened to it I realised that I needed to immerse myself in the music for longer to pick up on the nuances and subtlety that rewards multiple listens; I needed more time to formulate the words that did justice to this stunning body of work. So a review is coming - just not yet! In the meantime (and in between time - ooo, obscure The Party reference!) I've been spending a lot of time with their current single Silent Morning, featuring Ryan Adames (who I wrote about recently with his love is love inspired Justin Beiber cover) . John and Amii (who make up Parralox) already seduced & intrigued me with their wonderful song How Do You Break A Robot's Heart (listen here) - Silent Morning continues the love affair & has me hanging on their every note, synth beep and word with smitten devotion. It's built around a buoyant synth riff that just percolates with dramatic cymbal infused crashes and down & dirty bass notes that give an insistent groove; this provides the perfect backdrop for the simmering passion & emotion that's deeply ingrained in the lyrical content of the tune with both Ryan and Amii providing the sweet, sweet melody with their gorgeous vocal delivery. And the duet actually enhances the nature of the song - Ryan has a fiery yearning in his singing that underscores the irresistable longing whilst Amii's delicious voice (often reminiscent of early Madonna songs) provides a sweet, seemingly innocent balance to the proceedings. There's also a wistful sadness as this tempestuous love hits bumps in the road, leading to the analogy of that silent morning. It's apt that they've done a covers album that is so entrenched in 80s synth classics because their music here draws influences from Erasure, Madonna, Depeche Mode and even Savage Garden - yet there is a contemporary sheen (particularly across the plethora of remixes) & enough intuitive innovation to make Parralox stand out as their own brand. Examples of this include the clever use of vocodered voices between the chorus and second verse to align that heavenly synthy backdrop with as great importance as the vocal delivery; and the switcheroo in verse 2 where Ryan now sings second instead of first, making the narrative even more intriguing. Add into this heady mix that sensual video above (where all 3 look ridiculously gorgeous proving that no one ever will say "Can Parralox and Ryan be hotter please") and it's a winning combination that has me hitting repeat often. Oh and may I thank whoever decided that Ryan should be topless for most of the video - it's certainly given me a happy :) - My Fizzy Pop

Info (English):
It’s hard to believe that “Recovery”, the new concept album by Parralox, sat on the shelf for over two years. Uncertain about releasing an album of iconic cover songs, the band ultimately decided that the production spoke for itself and that the rest of the world and the band’s ever-growing international fan-base deserved to hear Parralox’s unique take on some of electronic pop’s greatest songs. Simply put, “Recovery” is quite easily the best body of work Parralox have put out to date.

With fresh new takes on legendary tracks by Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, ABBA, Madonna and the hauntingly beautiful “Eye In The Sky” by Alan Parsons Project, Parralox’s “Recovery” continues to carve out a niche for the band in today’s popular music landscape.

“Recovery” also marks an exciting new era for Parralox. In the upcoming months you’ll see the Australian pop duo make a shift to a more diverse electronic pop production house act with specially selected guest appearances from emerging pop vocalists as evidenced by the album’s first single “Silent Morning” which featured guest vocals by Ryan Adames. “Silent Morning” continues to ebb and flow on US club and mixshow DJ playlists and was recently given the remix treatment by the iconic DJ servicing force Ultimix.

At the helm of Parralox’s world-class production remains mastermind producer John von Ahlen of Subterrane Records. John’s commitment to the electronic pop genre is unparalleled and his knowledge and depth of the world of electronica and it’s technologies is second-to-none, a knowledge which clearly shines through on the execution of each and every track on “Recovery”.

Parralox’s next single release will be a Triple A Side EP featuring “Eye In The Sky” / “A Little Respect” / “Somebody” and will be dropping in a few weeks. Parralox is expected to release a new album of brand new original material early 2014 which includes new collaborations and lead single “Crying On The Dancefloor”.

“Recovery” by Parralox is OUT NOW on all leading digital download stores including iTunes and Amazon with a special physical CD with bonus tracks and remixes planned for release through Conzoom Records.

"Parralox // Recovery"

Recovery, the fifth album from John von Ahlen's Parralox is a collection of cover versions of tracks by Depeche Mode, Madonna, Blancmange, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys and others, all delivered with the highest possible pop nous by this Australian producer. Initially reticent about the idea of delivering an album of other people's songs, most of the tracks that form Recovery languished, unused, for two years until von Ahlen finally decided that the risk of offering alternative interpretations of some absolutely classic songs was worth it. The result is an album that entirely restores your faith in what pop music can be.

Tackling cover versions is fraught with complications, the decision over how much to reinterpret and change the songs being probably the hardest choice to be made. There are dozens of examples of misfires in this arena, somewhat tainting the concept, plus to the cynical it is reminiscent of a time when the charts seemed to be filled with either old tracks suddenly reissued for no apparent reason or lacklustre cover versions. Perhaps because of electronic music's constant mutability, and also the confident production values on display here, Recovery's retreads of the tracks selected manage to sidestep any accusations of lazy plagiarism; each is both faithful and different enough to feel like original tracks in their own right, and that's quite an achievement.

'Clearly, I'm a massive electronic music fan, and that's reflected in the track listing,' explains von Ahlen on coming up with the tracklisting for Recovery. 'I guess I chose the songs that meant a lot to me personally because they all influenced and inspired me to create music, after a fashion. They are tracks that I've grown up with and loved from an emotional and professional perspective. The most important selection criteria for me was that the songs had an impact and personal meaning. I knew that whatever songs I chose would be given a Parralox makeover and that's the challenge really: taking something old and making it new.'

It's that taking of something old and creating something new that turns Erasure's 'A Little Respect' into a shimmering, anguished wonderland of stereo-panning chimes and elastic melodies, or Kraftwerk's 'The Model' into a jerky mesh of inventive angles and fractured electronics; Depeche Mode's towering 'Somebody', Martin Gore and Alan Wilder's most inspired collaboration, is delivered with a renewed confidence and authentic environmental sounds, retaining Gore's perverted version of romance via singer Amii's sweet vocal delivery. All three of these songs are nigh on uncoverable (see Wheatus's take on 'A Little Respect' or Celluloide's version of 'Somebody'), sacred even, but von Ahlen's modified arrangements are both sensitive and compellingly brave.

Whether it be the naïve sexuality of early Madonna track 'Physical Attraction', the stagey drama of ABBA's 'The Day Before You Came' or Sparks' euphoric 'The Number One Song In Heaven', von Ahlen links these versions together by a relentless throbbing electricity; thick, gently modulating basslines and beats occupy the foreground and are then layered with all sorts of inventive melodic interplay - never flashy but always just the right side of emotionally devastating. There's a trace of François Kevorkian in the arrangements here, evoking that seminal producer and mixer's ability to take pop tracks and add sufficient injections of energy to get them ready for sweaty dancefloors. A case in point is the version of Pet Shop Boys' 'In The Night Two', where the arrangement perfectly evokes the spirit of pleasure-seeking, disaffected Eighties yuppies (even though it's actually about rebellious countercultural Parisians during World War II) or the sublime version of Noel's strained 'Silent Morning', wherein Amii duets with Ryan Adames. And as for von Ahlen's version of recent Depeche Mode comeback single 'Heaven'? Well, ignoring his faithful Dave Gahan vocal and overlooking the natural absence of Martin Gore's distinctive harmonies, his thudding version of the ponderous original knocks spots off the track that pre-empted Delta Machine.

Recovery was originally released as a fourteen-track download and will be released as a CD in September in a run of just 500 copies. For the CD version, Parralox switch out some of the tracks and add in some extra covers, including a neat synth reading of Joy Division's jangly, doomed 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and a genius version of Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft's wry and anthemic 'Kebabträume'. 'Kebabträume', like the insistent, heavy pulse of the take on Front 242's 'Headhunter' are two of the least 'pop' of the tracks included in the overal - Documentary Evidence (Unofficial Mute Records website)

"Popledge: Think 80's Madonna meets Pet Shop Boys meets Aqua and you get PARRALOX!"

Old school Madonna vibe mixed with the best moments of Aqua it’s Parralox!

This track is a lot of FUN which we like on popledge, the vocals really remind us of 80's Madonna in her prime. It also brings a retro dance feel into the 21st century with ease – great stuff. Think a female lead Pet Shop Boys if you will.

After spending a summer honing their live performance, delivering stand out sets at the Poptronik Festival in Spain and Electronic Summer in Sweden, PARRALOX are set to release their single ‘Sharper Than A Knife’ on November 26th.

"The Electricity Club: Best Video of 2012"

The overwhelming choice by The Electricity Club’s team of contributors for best video of 2012 was PARRALOX’s ‘Sharper Than A Knife 2012' remixed by PWL cohort Pete Hammond.

The song featured on PARRALOX’s 2008 debut album ‘Electricity’ and in its original form, resonated like a ‘Take My Breath Away’ for the 21st Century. Imagine how THE HUMAN LEAGUE might have sounded if Terri Nunn been lead singer? Four years on and this new version harks back to Aussie pop princess KYLIE MINOGUE’s early singles for The Hit Factory.

This lyric video was put together by the PARRALOX’s creative mainman John von Ahlen and consists of a montage of classic vinyl artwork set to the words of the song’s reflective tale of heartbreak. He told The Electricity Club: “Originally I just wanted to create a stock standard Lyric Video, nothing too fancy. As usual with PARRALOX, I thought it would be neat to throw in a reference to one of my favourite bands. So I animated the section with Pete Hammond’s name in it, based on DEPECHE MODE’s ‘Master & Servant’. When I finished that section, it was clear that it stood out from the rest of the clip in terms of visual impact and dynamics. So then the thought occurred…why don’t I make the ENTIRE video clip based on some of my favourite record sleeves?” So see how many you can identify…

The finished product has received a number of plaudits within the music industry including Popjustice who said: “Now this is how you do a lyric video”. John von Ahlen added: “I’m really pleased with the end result, and the reaction from the fans and online community has been nothing short of amazing. It’s so much fun to see people try and guess what records and covers they are watching. I threw in a few Easter Eggs for the hardcore Doctor Who and Numan fans…the GARY NUMAN reference isn’t really that subtle! I chuckled when someone pointed out to me that I made a spelling mistake…”

For those not yet familiar with Parralox, they're a two-piece electro-pop group who hail from Melbourne.

The pair - made up of vocalist Amii Jackson and writer/producer John VonAhlen - formed in 2008 and have been backed by critical acclaim ever since - though it has never quite translated into mainstream success.

Their latest track, 'Sharper Than A Knife', is in fact taken from their 2008 debut album Electricity but has been re-worked for a 2012 UK release. They've also recorded a new video to accompany the song, which you can watch exclusively below:

"Popjustice: Now this is how you do a lyric video"

We expect One Direction’s ‘Live While We’re Young’ lyric video will be a miniature work of art but until that one ‘drops’, this extraordinary lyric video for the Pete Hammond mix of Parralox‘s ‘Sharper Than A Knife’ is one of the year’s best.

In a way it’s a shame that the selection of record sleeves means that anyone not of A Certain Age will be unlikely to feel the full force of the video’s amazingness, but we reckon most people will get the general idea even if they don’t recognise most of what’s happening, and at least it’s true to the era of which Parallox are clearly so fond. "PARRALOX - RECOVERY"

It is probably not too far-fetched to argue with Parralox it were THE Australian synthpop institution of our day. At least, the duo of John Ahlen and Amii Jackson as one of the busiest bands, no matter what genre are called. It felt hardly a week goes by without that they will not release the cover artwork of a new (digital) single on Facebook. One could almost believe they do not exist outside of the studio. Before long their fifth album "Recovery," exclusively a collection of cover songs will appear. Nachgeträllerter a whole album full of songs? Can it work?
Jo, it can. If you have already seen at the time Apoptygma Berzerks "Sonic Diary". Anno dunnemals had Apop mastermind Stephan Groth, summarized his cover songs that appeared over the years here and there scattered on a silver disc. In Parralox situation is a bit different. John and Amii present here no summary of previous cover versions, but are specially drawn for "Recovery" into the studio to interpret a lot of songs of the decade, the dazzling new musical history in their own way. They snatched for songs by bands, which refers to the duo as the idols of their youth. It is probably not surprising that there are also Depeche Mode songs. What a miracle! Parralox interpret here, "Somebody" new (depending on the version of the album as "Heaven"). Who would have thought that this would actually overwrought piece again find favor? ;) Amii But not just with her ??wonderful, warm voice gets donated great moments here, and John must really shine. For example, with his lecture "Eye In The Sky", originally a 1982 song of the Alan Parsons Project. Interesting: "The Day Before You Came", the last song ABBA ever, this is also the first and only one in which a drum machine was used. However: against the melancholy voice comes in Agnetas Amii then but not quite to. Is this also not the first interpretation of this song, it is still one of the most beautiful.
In addition Parralox also did not stop before power station, which is also not really surprising. Your version of "The Model" is a lot faster and more danceable than the original. This should probably be a new dance floor filler. But also covers of representatives of the Dark scene can be found here again. For example, "Headhunter" by Front 242 or "Kebab Dreams" by DAF. The Cure, Erasure and The Cure I do not need to mention specially, right? "Recovery" is a quasi synthiepopige journey through the history of music. Although the Parralox version of "Heaven" could hardly be more topical course. Depeche Mode but there are so active since the 80s, but ultimately it fits again.
Oh yes: The CD version of "Recovery," which helps us on 20 Will be published in September via conzoom Records, differs in the tracklist but a little of the "recovery", which is already available in Spotify. Thus, the CD version will among other things said "Kebab Dreams" and already about five hundred times Fanta Still ion gecoverte "Love Will Tears Us Apart" (jepp, Joy Division, what else?) Include. Since Parralox have grossed a total of 20 songs, of which there are still managed in a different version of the album in some neither, one may well assume that the world champions will REPLACE it comes to singles releases the rest relatively quickly. And who the disc up to 16 August pre conzoom, is also mentioned with a thank entry in the booklet. Hey, this is finally a step towards immortality. : D since there will be only 500 copies of this CD, quick action is appropriate here.
"Recovery" is a waiting time until the next jumper "right" Parralox album, which will also be released this year. Nice that John and Amii, decided after the 2 years, the "recovery" finally fell asleep in the drawer to publish it.
Conclusion
Covers about 80 songs just seems to be in fashion in the synthpop area. I imagine to have you only just reported by the "Time Warp" the Blind Passengers Nik Page. And just as I ogle the reinterpretation of songs of my favorite decade also extremely critical. A loveless dahingerotzte cover, can make the worst of all cases, the joy of the original quite broken. It is a happiness and a listening pleasure for us consumers alike that John and Amii the songs do not just re-recorded, but they have over beamed with their typical Parralox sound in our time. Thus, the songs seem less like cover, as much as more alternative versions of familiar classics that certainly have a right to exist. So who can inspire the tunes of the 80s, here gets glossy reprints of songs that could be possibly even reverse snoring in his sleep in the original. And all others get a fancy Synthiepopalbum. Otherwise it was not to be expected from Parralox however.

"PARRALOX MAKES RECOVERY"

So those clever popsters from Aussie pop duo Parralox have cleverly called their latest album (released at the end of last week) 'Recovery'. Not because they're just getting over a bout of the latest flesh-eating virus, oh no. No, they've called it 'Recovery' because it's an album of cover versions.
But not just cover versions of the tracks that get rolled out over and over again ('Hallelujah', we cry!), but covers of tracks from some of our favourite ever pop artists.
Yes, there's Madonna! Pet Shop Boys! Erasure! Depeche Mode! ABBA! The Human League! So 'pop' is the word.
But again, the tracks are not the usual suspects. For example, the Madonna song is 'Physical Attraction'; the Abba track 'The Day Before You Came' and the Pet Shop Boys track is 'In The Night'.
Bandmember John tells us that this project sat on the shelf for the best part of two years while the twosome tossed up whether to set the concept free.
Thankfully they have, because there are some complete gems as part of the official tracklist (below, with original artists in brackets).
The band will release a new album project early next year. But in the meantime, get your mitts on Parralox' cover-filled 'Recovery'.

01. Eye In The Sky (Alan Parson’s Project)
02. A Little Respect (Erasure)
03. Physical Attraction (Madonna)
04. The Day Before You Came (ABBA)
05 Recovery ftg. Ryan Adames (Noel)
06. Somebody (Depeche Mode)
07. Touched By The Hand Of God (New Order)
08. The Model (Kraftwerk)
09. Headhunter (Front 242)
10. Heaven” (Beautiful World Remix) (Depeche Mode)
11. The Number One Song In Heaven (Sparks)
12. In The Night (Pet Shop Boys)
13. I Love You Too Much (The Human League) - auspOp

"Parralox release “Silent Morning” Video + Dark Intensity Ultimix"

For over two years, Parralox‘s just released new album “Recovery” was waiting to see the light of day. The album features wonderful covers of legendary tracks by Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, ABBA & Madonna. That’s just to name a few. Each cover is a fresh new take on a classic! Make sure to grab “Recovery” on iTunes.

They’ve also just released the stunning new official video for “Silent Morning” – watch below.

The Dark Intensity Ultimix has just been released along with the video, and we’re loving it. Let’s dance - Pro Motion

"“Recovery” – New concept album by Parralox"

In the upcoming months you’ll see the Australian pop duo make a shift to a more diverse electronic pop production house act with specially selected guest appearances from emerging pop vocalists as evidenced by the album’s first single “Silent Morning” which featured guest vocals by Ryan Adamés.

"THE BACK BUILDING X PARRALOX"

It’s fair to say Parralox are one of pop’s busiest duos. They could teach Beyonce a thing or two about how to deliver an album on time. They’ve got their SIXTH album coming later this year and have only just released their latest - Recovery - an album packed full with cover versions all given the Parralox makeover. We caught up with John from the group to talk Ab Fab, fan tattoos, X-men and more…

Do you know Parralox is a botox-type chemical used in Absolutely Fabulous. Were you a fan of the show?
Yes, and I still am! It’s brilliant. When I came up with the name, I had completely forgotten about that episode and so I thought I was quite clever! It wasn’t until a few months later someone reminded me that perhaps my subconscious had other ideas. It has prime google ranking, so I’m sticking with it!

Out of Patsy and Edie, who would you be?
Patsy but not because I have cocaine and joints in my beehive! Like Patsy, I can never have enough hats, shoes, gloves or…synthesizers.
So, John, why the name Recovery?
This is our 5th album (we have a 6th album coming out at the end of the year) and I decided to ?nally release all the cover versions we had been performing in our live shows over the last few years.
There were a few different working titles for this album, but I settled on the name Recovery for a few reasons - mainly because of the not-so-subtle word play.

image

What’s the concept of the album?
It’s a cover album and I chose some of the songs that were special to me growing up. We actually recorded about 30 songs for this album, but not all of them will be included. I’m hoping they all get to see the light of day in some form.

What can fans expect?
A collection of classic tracks with a few surprises thrown in, all reinvented in Parralox style. Some songs are faithful to their original production while others have been totally reinterpreted.

How has the Parralox sound developed?
Well you probably wouldn’t know it from this album, as some of the tracks are already more than a year old, but we are slowly moving away from the formulaic 80’s sound. We’re starting to infuse a few modern touches, and this will be apparent on the next original album we release at the end of the year. I have so many styles and genres I want to touch on, so I think next year we might see even more of a shift in our sound.

What is your favourite track from the album?
Eye In The Sky. It’s a classic Alan Parson’s Project song that I loved as a child. It was a real pleasure to be able to sing that song and give it new life. I’m hoping this album will lead people to discover the artists who originally sang the tracks and discover their back catalogue.

What’s the idea behind the single Silent Morning?
That track was written by Noel, a Latin freestyle artist, who had a hit with the song in the 80s. It’s about a failed relationship, and the guy is lamenting. I can relate!

What was it like working with Ryan?
A lot of fun, he’s such an energetic guy and a wild spirit. You know when you meet someone for the ?rst time and things just click you you’ve known them forever? It was like that.

Who would you most like to work with?
Hmm…I have a veeeery long list! It includes up-and-coming artists as well as a few stars from the past. If David Lynch’s agent is reading this, please tell him I said hello ;) To be honest there’s so many of my idols I’d like to work with, but the idea of working with new up and coming singers is more appealing. If I can help out emerging talent then that’s a wonderful thing.

image

Who has in?uenced your sound?
Wow…where to begin? I grew up listening to such a variety of music. Everything from Kraftwerk, The Beatles, The Human League, Kate Bush and Randy Crawford. I love producers like Stuart Price, Red One, Trevor Horn and William Orbit. I always had an ear for amazing songs and production. Is it dorky to say I like ABBA? Well I do. Some brilliant songs in their back catalogue for sure.

What are your fans like?
First word that springs to mind is “loyal”. We have such a diverse fan base it never ceases to amaze me. We do live shows all around the world and I think we have a good cross section.

What are they called?
We aren’t Lady Gaga famous, so we haven’t really gotten to that stage yet! I guess I’d call our fans “music lovers”? How about Parraloxians? Nahh..that sounds cheesy, right?

Any fan tattoos yet?
No, but we get sent in fan-art all the time, as well as fan videos etc. That’s always amazing to see. To think that people get into the music so much that they want to engage in such a way, it’s really humbling to be honest.

Were you a super fan of anyone growing up?
Yeah, the X-Men and Doctor Doom. I guess he’s the reason why I’m such a freak when it comes to ?le structure and backing up. I have triple redundancies at my recording studio!

"Neues von: De/Vision, Empire of the Sun, Tiësto u.a."

Empire of the Sun

Ihr Debütalbum “Walking On A Dream” verkaufte sich weltweit über 1 Million Mal und brachte die Hitsingles “We Are The People” und “Walking On A Dream” hervor.

Kyler England (“Take Me”), Tiësto & DJ Punish (“Shocker”) oder Tiësto & Dyro (“Paradise”). Ausserdem bietet diese Compilation eine breite Auswahl von exklusiven Tiësto Remixes, die nur hier zu finden sind wie z.B. Calvin Harris “Sweet Nothing ft. Florence Welch” (Tiësto and Ken Loi Re-Remix) oder Quintino Alvaro “United” (Tiësto & Blasterjaxx remix). Der nordische Party-Sommer kann also kommen!

"Lieder für heute"

Another selection of some newer musical delights is in order today, methinks...

First up, those marvellous pioneers of 80s electronic music OMD (Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark) are back with a new album (English Electric) and a fab single Dresden:

Regular faves here at Dolores Delargo Towers, those mad Melbourne-ites Parralox have a new single out, (featuring the rather cute Ryan Adamés), which has rather an early "house" feel about it - it's Silent Morning - Dolores Delargo Towers

"Parralox’s new single"

Australian SynthPoppers Parralox have just released a brand new single, Silent Morning, which seems to see their journey though 80s SynthPop head toward the end of the decade. The Ryan Adamés featruing track catches the wave of current late 80s/early 90s revival tracks and brings the trend right to Parralox’s sound.

Loaded with all the elements we love about that period in music, post-B-boy Electro beats, orchestral stabs, digital synth bass and extra cowbell. None of this is too surprising though, as the track is actually a cover of 1987 obscurity Silent Morning by Noel. With a pair of amazing vocal performances by both Adamés and Parralox’s Amii Jackson and a truly period electronic backing, this cover of Silent Morning is pitch perfect retro pop. Check it out. - Electronic Rumors

"WMC 2013, Day One: Gimm+Icky, Kerli, Parralox, and HTC Overdose"

Parralox

After some down time, The Beachmonkey (MIke Luczaj, an official photographer for WMC) and I made our way to Twist, the most unpretentious of the major Gay venues in South Beach, to see Parralox. This is an Australian duo, John von Ahlen and Amii Jackson, quite possibly the cutest pair in all of Down Under. It was their first time in the USA. "Great experience for a little girl from Australia," said Amii.

They performed before an enthusiastic crowd, Amii singing live and John playing keyboard from his laptop, which for me was a first. The music was good, vocals flawless, and the crowd loved them. [Click here for their video, "Sharper than a Knife."]

I already wrote about “Silent Morning”, the mid 80s freestyle pop hit by Noel, as covered by Aussie duo Parralox, back in January. What will now be the official release of the single features handsome L.A. singer Ryan Adamés in a pairing sure to cause intense dancefloor bliss. In fact you can catch Parralox and Ryan performing in Miami tomorrow night at Twist Sound Beach to launch this sparkling rework. - BILLCS MUSIC BLOG

"Winter Music Conference to have first ever LGBT panel"

A group of artists including electro pop duo Parralox, Ryan Adames, Bill Coleman, Lee Dagger Bimbo Jones, DJ Pride, Raj Rudolph, Jade Starling, Jessica Sutta, and Jon Pito will gather to speak at the first LGBT Panel at the Winter Music Conference (WMC) in its 28 years of existence in Miami.

The panel will cover issues that performers in the LGBT community face “in a world that loves queer glamour, but caters to a mostly straight crowd.” Delving into a range of relevant topics, the panel will examine fashion-forward gender expression, the idea of out-and-proud or discreet, acceptance of transpeople, differences between gay and straight audiences, new diva allies, Electronic Dance Music trends in LGBT communities, the rise of gay Latina/o influence, and helping young LGBT artists get ahead.

Moderator of the LGBT Panel at WMC, Mickey Weems, points out to 429Magazine that although the conference has “always firmly supported LGBT artists,” they have never given direct recognition. He adds that there has been much internal support; both straight and gay.

“When I found out about [the panel], I thought it was amazing,” Ryan Adames, panelist and musician, told 429Magazine. “We’ve come a long way as a gay community. I struggled not only as a Latino artist, but as an openly gay artist as well. This is an opportunity to spread knowledge and I’m really excited about it.”

In its 28th consecutive year, WMC stands as the largest industry gathering of its kind in the world. Attracting thousands of artists and industry professionals from 70+ countries, the event boasts 100,000+ attendees for over 500 events, seminars, workshops, and parties.

“It's fantastic that this is the first LGBT panel at WMC,” Lee Dagger Bimbo Jones told 429Magazine. “I myself have been attending and DJing at WMC since 2000. Having just returned from DJing at Sydney Mardi Gras for my 3rd year in a row, I am looking forward to hearing the topics and adding my views for the community.”

In regards to straight allies, Weems said, “They love us…they stood up for us. Some may have even lost venues because of it. They do care.” He explains how he has had more straight women want to be on the panel than anyone else. Weems also emphasized that there are a number of hot new artists to look out for at the event representing’ the LGBT community.

“Disco and electronica found a voice in the underground gay clubs, and what was once underground and gay slowly became part of the mainstream music culture,” said Parralox in a recent interview. “Without gay clubs, we’d be stuck in a bleak landscape of AC/DC cover bands. Without disco and drag queens, the world wouldn’t be worth living in.”

"New Music Video Review – Parralox – Sharper Than A Knife"

Parralox - Sharper Than A Knife – Official Video

Following up from their lyric video electronic pop duo Parralox have now released the official music video for ‘Sharper Than a Knife.’

Aspects of the video are set in the 1950's centred on a dissatisfied housewife and a husband who doesn’t think she is up to the job of home management. Those scenes are inter-cut with some glamorous black and white ‘performance’ shots where the lead singer shows off her old school credentials. There is hope for our housewife though! A mysterious man leaves notes under her front door urging her to leave her ungrateful husband. How does it end? You will have to watch below!

This track is a lot of FUN which we like on popledge, the vocals really remind us of 80's Madonna in her prime. It also brings a retro dance feel into the 21st century with ease – great stuff. Think a female lead Pet Shop Boys if you will.

The single is out now!

"Video of the Week (Sharper Than A Knife - Andi Durrant + Steve More Remix)"

Exclusive for TEEZ’ The New Parralox single « Sharper Than A Knife » (Andi Durrant + Steve More Remix)
The Video is directed by John von Ahlen for Subterrane - Teez FM (France)

"Interview - Parralox"

Parralox are pop duo Amii Jackson and John von Ahlen.

December 2012 sees the long-awaited new international digital single release of « Sharper Than A Knife » by hot new Australian electronic pop duo Parralox which will be available worldwide on all iTunes stores.

After their recent performances at the Poptronik Festival in Spain and Electronic Summer in Sweden, Parralox finishes out the year with a bang as « Sharper Than A Knife » goes global with a set of remixes to suit any particular flavor of dance music.

Hello Parralox, What goes on?
It’s a lovely sunny, sunday afternoon in Melbourne and I’ve spent the first half of the day celebrating the 2nd birthday of my lovely dog Jack! There’s a Japanese restaurant next to the recording studio (Yamato) and the owner has 2 children who totally adore Jack, so we had a little party for him with cake and candles. After that little bit of excitement I was back in the studio, working on music, web stuff and some video editing. I don’t take days off. Music is a full time job/passion :)

Tell us about the new single called ‘Sharper Than A Knife’.
Well, it’s a track originally from our first album (Electricity). Our previous management decided to release Creep and then Sharper Than A Knife as he considered them our strongest tracks at the time. A lot of fans have been curious why we would revisit the past and release these tracks, and I guess the idea was to « relaunch » the band to the public at large, who had never heard of us before. So for our current fans it’s probably not the most exciting time in regards to hearding new Parralox music, although the new mixes are brilliant and the new video clip will be a lot of fun. We actually produced FIVE video clips for Sharper Than A Knife, which has to be some sort of insane record. You will get to see them all at some stage.

What is the meaning behind the title, ‘Sharper Than A Knife’?
That song came to me in a dream. This will sound very obvious, and I guess it is really, but I was listening to « The Knife » the night before and I thought it would be good to write a song with the word « Knife » in the lyric, because it sounds cool and I love that band. I think there was also some stuff going on in my life on a personal level that manifested itself in the lyric. I wasn’t in a relationship but the idea of not accepting someone for who they are, and wishing they were something else, was very relevant for me at the time. That’s the beauty of the subconscious, it can turn you into a songwriter without even knowing it.

On the EP tracklist there is one track by Pete Hammond, were you fans of his work for Stock Aitken & Waterman?
Were, and still are. Most people who know me, know that I am a bit of an 80's tragic. I still listen to a lot of music from that period, and that naturally includes SAW. It’s far too easy to bag them as crap producers and songwriters, but the facts speak for themselves. That team had a string of hits for many years, and they were innovators quite frankly. Sure, their music wasn’t for everyone, but what they did they did well.

Moreover if you had to make a cover of one of Stock Aitken &Waterman’s titles, which one would you pick? I know this is a difficult choice. (But I wish Parralox could make a cover of a track by SAW).
I guess I’d have to choose one of my top 3 SAW songs, namely I Don’t Believe In Miracles (Sinitta), What Do I Have To Do (Kylie) or Love, Truth & Honesty (Bananarama). To be honest, there are at least another 10 songs that I could pick. As far as getting your wish, we recorded one of those tracks last year (not telling which one though!)

You covered ‘Creep’ . Why did you choose this song?
Creep was actually a last minute addition to our debut album Electricity. I thought I’d whip up something quickly and tried to think of the most guitar based song I could, which I would then convert to synthetic. I’d recently watched South Park and was reminded of Creep (from one of my all time favourite episodes « Scott Tenorman must die ») and remembered what a brilliant, emotional song it was. I thought it would be the perfect song to convert to « digital », so to speak. Most people love it or hate it. I know we had some trouble getting it on UK radio, as the original track is almost an institution and it’s almost blasphemy to do a cover version. When I recorded it, it was just supposed to be a fun, bonus track on our album. I never thought it would be a lead single 3 years later!

Your previous album is already two years old, have you been working on a new one?
Yes, Parralox never stopped recording new songs. I personally felt very frustrated at having to re-release the old songs and basically stop releasing new material. We’d been releasing a new album once a year and then all of a sudden it just stops. But I kept on writing and recording, and eventually created a side project called The Sound Of the Crowd, in order to release all these Parralox songs I’d written. - Teez FM (France)

"Parralox - Gaydar Radio Interview"

The electronic-pop duo first came to our attention when they did an amazing cover of Radiohead's 'Creep', which, incidentally, GaydarRadio were the first station in the world to play. What's more the track was catapulted to the top spot of the Your Choice Chart, where it stayed for three weeks.

We now catch up with Australian band to ahead of the release of their latest single, ‘Sharper Than A Knife’, and find out more about gay culture, mega fame and pink body stockings!

Tell us a bit more about your current single ‘Sharper Than A Knife’. What inspired you to write this one?
John: It actually came to me in a dream. I remember hearing it and thinking, 'This sounds great!' I forced myself to wake up and recorded it into my phone. The next day I did a demo of it in the studio and we both thought it had potential. A lot of my songs I hear in my dreams, so it feels like I’m cheating when I call myself a songwriter.

Is there a new album in the works? If so, what can we expect?
Amii: Yes, both John and I have been recording new tracks for the last year, in preparation for the new album. Recording is always pretty cruisy - except in Spain! We performed at the Poptronik Festival earlier this year and did some demos in our hotel room and nearly died of heatstroke as our room’s air-con had busted.

You had a hit with a cover of Radiohead’s 'Creep'. Are there any other covers in the pipeline? Any songs that you would like to cover?
John: Funny you should ask. We have an album of cover versions we will be releasing soon. It’s actually been on the shelf for a year and we want to get it out before we release our next single.

Amii: The possibilities are endless for songs to cover, I’m always hearing songs and thinking, 'Oh, that could be interesting, we could do a Parralox take on that'.

Who were your childhood musical heroes?
John: Divine, Depeche Mode, Randy Crawford, Human League, Kraftwerk, Trevor Horn, Yazoo, Culture Club, Propaganda, Grace Jones. I’ll have to stop myself, I could make this list 10 pages long! I was always attracted to good songs, synthesisers and anything visually interesting.

Amii: Madonna, Kylie, Cathy Dennis and Deee-lite. I was actually obsessed with Boy George – I wanted to be just like him when I grew up!

You performed at the Poptronik Festival in Spain and Electronic Summer in Sweden – what were those experiences like?
John: It was a real buzz to play on the same stage with Andy Bell and then hang out with him afterwards. We’ve actually started writing songs together since then, so who knows what will happen as a result of that. I had to be super cool and not scream like a 14 year old girl and kiss him!! He’s a really chilled out guy and super professional, so I was fine And OMG the hotel we were staying at was like something out of a David Lynch movie. When we play Poptronik next year we are definitely shooting a video there.

Amii: The hotel in Spain was actually haunted and I had a few supernatural experiences. I’m known in my inner circle of friends as a bit of a ghost whisperer.

"I could see us in a big haze of mirror balls and glitter looking out into a sea of crazed fans singing every word back to us!"

What would be your fantasy gig?
Amii: Headlining the Sydney Mardi Gras. Or any Mardi Gras for that matter. I could see us in a big haze of mirror balls and glitter looking out into a sea of crazed fans singing every word back to us!

John: Right now it would be touring with Madonna, Robyn or Lady Gaga as support act and then later on doing our own worldwide tour, playing at every capital city in every country until the whole world knows who we are. Ambitious, much?

Do you remember the first time you ever got up on stage and performed? What happened?
John: I remember it vividly, unfortunately. I was at primary school and played a character who was taking a bath. I was wearing a pink body stocking as I was supposed to be naked. I had to get out of the bath and sing a song, but just prior to me getting up I started to get a semi. I was so embarrassed and had to think of anything I could to 'restore normality'. Needless to say it all went well and no one else ever knew.

Amii: When I played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz I was like an episode of Glee when everyone runs up after they post the cast list. I looked and saw that I had the lead role and I was so happy with myself. My mum still brags about it to this very day.

If you could only choose one, which album by another artist has had the biggest impact on you?
John: The Human League – Dare. It’s the perfect mix of pop songs and minimal, electronic production.
Amii: Madonna – The First Album. It changed my life.

Finish the sentence: Gay audiences are...
John: The best, because we know how to party and we do it with style.
Amii: On a personal level they're also the best for me because it’s when I’m truly in my element.

"Parralox announce New single ‘Sharper Than A Knife’ set for iTunes release on 26th November 2012"

If ever there was a new band to encapsulate and emulate the legendary stylings of Depeche Mode, The Human League, Erasure, New Order, Pet Shop Boys and the spirit of Madonna in her 80s day-glo era, then Australia’s Parralox are a modern-day reincarnation.

Contributions on the digital remix package for ‘Sharper Than A Knife’ include The Wideboys, Andi Durrant, Steve More and the immensely popular Pete Hammond remix that was featured on both influential online tastemaker publications Popjustice and EQ Music Blog most recently.

With a love for all things synthetic, surreal and science fiction, there are very few relevant and contemporary bands making electronic pop today like Parralox. Their passion for razor sharp production with a stylistic flair that is both vintage fabulous and future chic puts them at the forefront of pop culture.

Check out their wonderful lyric video below:

"New Music: Parralox"

If Pete Waterman still made music that was cheesier than a cheddar factory, this is probably what it would sound like. Therefore, this is unmistakably pop. Good pop, mind. Check out here. - Alfitude UK

" Parralox – Sharper Than A Knife (Pete Hammond Remix)"

Parralox’s Sharper Than A Knife is the stuff obsessions are born of. Here, in its Pete Hammond remix form, the track dips into a vein of 80s nostalgia so strong, you can practically taste the chorus of Club Tropicana and bouffant hairspray. Following previous masterwerks such as this, Hammond delivers another raft of SAW-worthy synths – it doesn’t just sound like the 80s, it *is* the 80s. Captured in a bottle, spring-loaded on a stack of old copies of Smash Hits – it’s every trip to Reflex you ever dreamed about, and more.

We haven’t even got started on the lyric video. After one watch of this, all other lyric videos might as well shut up shop and go home. It basically recreates all your favourite 80s vinyl sleeves, ever. Indeed, trying to spot them all very nearly tops the track itself in terms of sheer fun-factor.

With praise from the likes of Popjustice, Perez Hilton and EQ Music ringing in their ears, expect to hear a lot more from this Aussie duo in the future.

"Parralox"

¿Quiénes son Parralox? Esa banda electro que ha creado himnos como "Hotter", "Isn´t It Strange", "Supermagic", "Creep" o "Sharper Than A Knife". Influídos por Eurythmics, Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, The Human League y Erasure. Nada mejor que este video de presentación para los que aún no los conocen. Elegantes y melódicos; electrónicos y con clase: PARRALOX. - Glamourkinky

"Parralox – Sharper Than A Knife"

TIM - According to this duo’s PR people this lyric video is critically acclaimed, so I suppose we really ought to watch it. (Much as part of me wants to make fun of that, it is true, and the video is really quite inventive.)

TOM - It’s easy to make a lyric video – but so difficult to make a good lyric video.

TIM - These guys are from Australia, so this comes back more from my current enjoyment of electropop than europop or anything, but I don’t care because I think this is great.

TOM - It is – and look out for some more Australian tracks appearing here in the next few weeks, as I’m on holiday down under for most of November. Particularly if they’re as good as this.

TIM - The vocals are pretty good and the backing track is excellent, and really that’s all I have to say about this. Mainly because I’m too busy listening to it. - Europlop!
