Bio

Parts Per Million (Jay Ro > vocals, guitar, violin, synth | Jimmy Jensen > drums | Bruce Rarang > bass | Jimmy Chung > guitar) exploded onto the Chicago music scene in late 2008, quickly setting themselves apart as a singular and unique band. Parts Per Million's music rings true with hooky choruses, hard edges, and epic violin passages. It's easy to hear why their audience runs the gamut from the young person just discovering rock music to the more mature, seasoned listener experiencing PPM’s unique combination of energy-driven rock with rolling, violin-filled passages and honest lyrics. Their sound has been compared to that of Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World, Weezer, Deftones, and Muse.

Contributing to their unique sound is the varied backgrounds of each member. Frontman Ro was classically trained on the piano and violin and has been a featured performer with several symphonic orchestras. Drummer Jensen has played with various symphonic, marching, and jazz bands. Guitarist Chung has shared the stage with many national acts, including Seether, Buckcherry, and Collective Soul. Lastly, bassist Rarang has been rocking the local Chicago scene for many years, participating in numerous shows, TV tapings, and documentaries. This combination of talents, experiences, and interests has culminated in PPM being a band unlike any that has been heard on the rock scene.

In the year since their inception, several of PPM’s notable accomplishments include:
• 2008 Kollaboration Grand Prize Winner (Chicago, IL)
• Winner of the 2007 Great American Song Contest for 'Analog Heart'
• Freedom Over Texas Festival, July 4th ‘09 – Featured Performer (Houston, TX)
• GRACE’09 Featured Performer (Chicago, IL)
• ENE Chicago Rocks - Comcast Channel 25 Featured Musical Guest (Chicago, IL)
• Mantic Music E-Zine Featured Band

They have been performed at such storied venues as:

• The Abbey Pub, Martyr’s, Elbo Room, Reggie’s Rock Club & Music Joint, Subterranean, Cubby Bear, Beat Kitchen, US Beer Co., and the Underground Lounge. (Chicago)
• The Proletariat, Taft Street Coffee, Hole in the Wall, and Stafford on Main (Texas)

Recently the band released their debut music video for their song “Racer on YouTube and is currently preparing songs for their third album, scheduled to be released later this year. They continue to perform regularly and are seeking label/talent representation.
