Biography

It's been said that every artist is a link in a chain. Pascal Labillois was influenced by Melissa Etheridge, who adored Bruce Springsteen, who followed Woody Guthrie. Each of these artists has explored the lives of everyday, ordinary people, expressing their kinship through a roots-rock sound and strong, pop vocals. Labillois continues that tradition.

The Quebec native first picked up a guitar at the age of 12, began writing songs at 14 and decided to fully pursue music at 17. He spent the next years traveling – Labillois performed in bars and clubs across Canada and jammed with George Strait’s band in Texas. The life of a nomad “got me in a bit of trouble,” he says, “but I got great songs out of it.

Labillois’ first collection of his emotional, autobiographical songs, The Road to Yourself, earned him new fans in the US, Europe and Australia. Labillois had moved to Toronto and discovered a new creative path by performing with and producing albums for other bands and singers.

After another round of travels – during which he toured the southern US states, learning country in Nashville and playing the blues in Memphis – Labillois began working on new projects in 2006. Joined by Juno Award-winning guitarist Wendell Ferguson and top Toronto drummer Gary Craig, Labillois crafted new songs like “I Belong with you,” “Spring Rains” and “Burn” – together with his collaborators, Canadian music veteran Doug Blais and brilliant engineers Michael “Dullboy” Langford.

Labillois is currently recording his new album with Producer Brian Gagnon and promises a new CD in 2007 featuring his unashamedly-heartfelt lyrics, a more acoustic-rock sound and “a few surprises.” The ‘road to himself’ is now set to lead further ahead than ever before, as Labillois continues making music that celebrates Canada’s rich heritage, gifted talents and ordinary heroic people.

Lyrics

Champaign High (Sweet bitter song)

Written By: Pascal Labillois

My fourth glass of Merlot
I stare at stain marks from the wine
Prints of my lips, I wish they were yours
Please somebody bring me back in time
I look at our pictures
Memories just won’t fade away
I turn on the radio
Sweet bitter song as I hear them sing

Chorus
“Champagne high”, words sung so easy, while I wish I knew how to say
In your eyes; there’s so much closeness, why are we light years away?

A Knock on the front door
I trip on my shoes as I hurry on
You walk in; make yourself at home
That’s why I’m still hanging on
I’m playing it cool
I smile to hide the void inside
Second refrain
Sweet bitter song as they sing again

Chorus

Why are we light years away?
Why are we light years away?

Get me outa here

Written By: Pascal Labillois

Sitting here all day
Waiting to punch out
I’m going brain dead
I can’t even shout
I’m always eating
Got nothing else to do
My bank account is empty
It’s giving me the blues

Get me out of here
This hell that I’m in
Need another life, Need another town
Get me out of here
Before I give in
Nothing’s worse in life, than a nervous breakdown

Each year goes by
My bones get older
I know that I’m still young
But stress is a slow killer
A good friend of mine
Bought a home in town
I have a world to see
I won’t settle down

Chorus

I see rays of light breaking through the clouds
But they don’t shine on me
I can hear harmonies calling out my name
Somewhere far from here

Like a tattoo

Written By: Pascal Labillois

It’s never easy
To see the end before you reach it
Hurt in your heart
Long before you break it
I don’t know how
I let myself fall for you
Knowing from the start
I’d end up bruised

If I had to love you all over again
I’d say I would
If I knew how badly it would hurt
I don’t think I could
I’ve learnt a lot and I thank you
I’m moving on without you
But you’re part of my skin like a tattoo

It’s kind of weird
What I put myself through
After the cheating
That I stayed with you
I wonder why
I let you put my pride on hold
I was stupid
To love you so

Chorus

My friends around ask me why I won’t go with you
I simply say that it’s your dream; just not my place for now
And I know deep inside that it’s a lie
Cause everyday I wishing otherwise

Chorus

And for the end, I’ll start a new chapter
One where I find love forever

Here with me

Written By: Pascal Labillois

I get up every morning; pour myself a cup of tea
Then walk back to the bedroom to find you sound asleep
Then it’s time for me to hit the shower
Pull a pair of boxer from the drawer
Then you crack a smile

I like it crazy
How you can’t stop making love to me
This obsession in your eyes
It’s clear your love is here with me

5 pm get out of work; now it’s time for the good stuff
Pull on trousers, CK shirt, shine my shoes; looking tough
Better try to get my act together
We’re seeing friends in an hour
Then you crack a smile

I like it crazy
How you can’t stop making love to me
This obsession in your eyes
It’s clear your love is here with me

Oxygen

Written By: Steve Ledlie

With every kiss I take you in
I feel you deep under my skin
The white hot rush of adrenaline
Burning its way through me
I know I’d fade a disappear
A flame deprived of precious air
Without you baby I’m going nowhere
Yeah you give me life

Your oxygen
Going through my veins
Rockin’ my heart, blowing me away
You’re the only thing that matters
I’m reminded every time
I breathe in your oxygen

I need the way you cover us
It’s a drug that’s never enough
I couldn’t live without your love
I couldn’t even try

Chorus

With every kiss I take you in…
